Today, Jan. 21, 2010 is former governor Albert Rosellini's 100th birthday! For those who don't remember, or weren't alive, he was the governor of Washington for 2 terms from 1957 to 1965. He was the first Italian-American and first Catholic governor west of the Mississippi River. He brought reform to the prisons and mental health facilities, expanded the university system. He was the driving force behind bringing the world's fair to Seattle (thus creating it's iconic Space Needle) and the Evergreen Floating Bridge, now named for him. So when you pass the sign saying the Rosellini Bridge, now you know.

Happy birthday, Governor!
