OK my wife and I just moved back east a few months ago because of my job, but we both really miss it out west. So we are looking to go to the northwest in a few years or sooner if possible but we are looking in many areas. We are looking in western Montana, Southern and Northern Idaho(including the Spokane area), Western Oregon and Western Washington. If anyone has any information on these areas and towns in the areas that would be great. We both like smaller towns, but not being 4 hours away from nice size town, I mean by nice size is about 7,000 people plus, doesn't have to be huge!We love being outdoors, she grew up in Montana and me in Pennsylvania. Racing is a big part in are lives, mostly oval track. We have a young son and that is one thing we are looking to move back out west, just really enjoy it out there then here in the east. if you can help with and info or have more questions just ask thanks

There have recently been discussions regarding the opposite issue (folks from back there (PA) moving to PNW, and missing the PA people, and then moving back). One company reported ~ 90% of those it sent west, moved back within 10 yrs. It was similar with my Colorado company that sent divisions spin offs to PNW. Most folks returned to Colorado (not me, yet...).

For your desired weather / activities, I would draw a 100mile circle around Spokane, Bozeman, Sheridan, WY and Boise, and start looking / researching. It is gonna be tough to take MT out of your wife, so I would look there first. You didn't mention jobs / career / schooling, so that make sway the vote. I would not recommend OR (expensive state to reside), though I have seen some racing in LaGrande (it is at fairgrounds, not a true 'short-track oval'). Do you do Motorcycle or cars? (cars I assume).

In WA there appears to be tracks in Wenatchee (dry side of Mtns, probably preferred by your wife) http://www.nwlegends.com/index.htm
and Monroe and Grays Harbor (Wet side) http://www.evergreenspeedway.com/ http://www.graysharborraceway.com/

Centralia (between each track, fairly inexpensive property) area may be a good choice (1.5 hrs to Portland or Seattle). This location is very close to Rainier and St Helens, + Coast and Columbia Gorge are within 1.5 hrs, so very central and accessible to lots of activities. Bit depressed for jobs too, but you can commute to Olympia. (Buy / live on high ground in Centralia / Chehalis areas, known for flooding as silted rivers get backed up)

Grays Harbor is pretty depressed (economically) and VERY wet (foggy / drizzle)
more WA tracks http://www.northwestcharm.com/wa/sub...otorsports.htm

Sandpoint, ID through Plains, MT is a nice area, fairly accessible to Spokane and Missoula. Great recreation, decent weather along the Clark Fork.

Most dirt track racing will be in southern ID and Southern MT

Just a quick thank you Stealthrabbit. I followed the link to Seattle.gov/ skagit tours from NW charm. My wife and I are moving to the area next summer. I am seeking things to do in the area. (Easy to do though!) Thanks for the site!!!!
