How is life in Republic?
I visited years ago and loved the small town atmosphere and natural beauty there. Does anyone here live there or been there recently? I am planning a trip back there this summer but am curious to know if it is the place I remember or things have changed so much from 12 years ago as to make the trip pointless. Thank you in advance for any input you can provide.

I don't live there, but I have traveled thru, and I wish I lived up there. I was in Republic a few years ago during the Summer. Nice and quiet.

republic
We were looking to move there but houseing prices are not much better that out laying seattle area and some of the well's in town are bad due to the mining processing. Employment is an issue unless you work for the school system or city. Good Luck

How was your trip?
I live there until I joined the air force in '88.

Republic
Just wondering if there is anyone out there who lives in Republic now? We are thinking of moving there, but don't know anyone. I would like to ask a few questions. Thanks.

Wrangler - it's been several years since I've been back but most of my family still lives in the area so I could probably answer your questions.
janb - the prosperity of the area has always ebbed and flowed with the availability of jobs. Back when I was growing up the mining and lumber industry were the main jobs. All of the lumber mills have shut down and I don't think mining is what it was in the past.
The area has turned to tourism but I don't know how well that's done.
I'm surprised to hear about boarded up stores. Places on the main street have always been occupied. I'll have to ask my dad about it.

I don't recall hearing anything about the mine causing any water pollution. Those inside the city limits would be on city water, not wells.
I would have thought something like that would be mentioned in the local paper, which I still get.
