According to the local paper, Mccrorie's Furniture store is hiring, 7 Cedars Casino and Food Services is hiring, PA School District is hiring, Utility is hiring, as well as United Way, Planned Parenthood, Bus Drivers, Sawmill, Park Rangers, Dental Employees, Roofers, Dinner Cook at Joshua's.

Also in the paper in regards to moving to Forks:
in the newspaper search engine type in Forks and Twlight, there are several articles about them:
http://www.peninsuladailynews.com/

Also check the Sequim Gazette

And Forks Forum

Read these papers every day for a while and I think you'll get much better information than you are getting on this forum. At one time this really was a great informational site. It's sad that's gone in this direction.

No they did no filming in forks! I was just there in forks June 2011 for a visit I live in renton wa! Its a long drive but my family went camping by there. Stop all the b.s the visitor station right as you get into town will tell you not one thing was filmed there!!! Why, not enough lodging for the crew, staff ect and the town didn't have the resources to support it! They did scout there , that's all! So whatever these kids are saying is crap! The town has alot of shops dedicated to the film and even a self drive tour of the homes, hospital ect ( book based!) not movie based!!! The above info on the sited above are correct . Most were in Oregon.

Not many. Forks is a very sad and depressing place. It is sad that Hollywood lies have made people think about actually moving there. If you want to live in a sad, rainy town, try Aberdeen/Hoquiam first. At least you may find a job and housing.

If you like what you saw in the movie Twilight, move to Portland, Oregon where it was filmed. Forks is way too foggy/rainy/ugly for Hollywood to actually film there. The Twilight author never saw the place when she wrote the books.

As mentioned, Forks' economy is depressed - and NOT just because the rest of the country's is. Forks has had a tough time for more than 20 years now - ever since the logging industry took a hit because of the spotted owl controversy. On the plus side the Twilight films have a been a bit of a boom to the town (since tourists keep showing up).

The main thing you have to keep in mind is that Forks is a very small town that's a longgggg way from any major population center and job source so if you are not retired you better have a job lined up ahead of time.

Also - as mentioned, the weather there is pretty bleak - dark, dreary and wet, wet, wet (it's grim reputation in that regard is likely the reason the author set the books there).

It's a visually stunning part of the country but the immediate area is not all that scenic - with much of it heavily logged off.

NO ONE should move there without visiting 1st (good advice for most places actually, but especially for a place as small and remote as Forks).

Ken

Forks is in the middle of nowhere. It's an hour to the nearest Wal Mart, and then 2 1/2 hours to shopping. The rain is horrid, and the gray skies are abundant.

On the plus side, the beaches off of La Push are amazing. The Hoh is just a stones throw away and people are nice.

Well.. it has been interesting to read this thread... my husband and I bought five acres fifteen miles west of Forks about seven years ago, before all this "Twilight" stuff started to happen... we like country, we like small town and we like friendly people... every time we went to Forks to visit before making our final decision we were treated with kindness and courtesy... my youngest son became ill with asthma while we were there and the hospital (I work in a hospital in Los Angeles) was efficent well equiped and prices were less than we would have paid in LA... since my husband and I are older we inquired at the hospital about serious illness...they said the could handle most anything but if it was truly critical they had helicopters to Seattle...bet that costs a chunk of change... there was so much stated here that was negative, I just felt someone who loves the area should speak up... the beauty, quiet, quaintness and calm peaceful speak to me and I just think you never really know a place until you live there... we will be moving north in the next few years when we retire and I am so looking forward to it... I have lived in Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona, California and Colorado.. each place has had its own beauty and style.. I am sure Forks does as well...every time I visit I don't feel depressed, I feel refreshed and renewed.. how could you not after living in Los Angeles...if you have never lived country or small town it might be a shock but after Colorado and New Mexico, weather should be a piece of cake... you never know until you try...

I actually went to Forks and hated it. I took one look at the scary people at the gas station and thought that everyone was on meth there. That is the last place I would ever move to. Port Angeles was great though, so pretty. So much better than Forks.

So Ma and Pa Kettle was set on the Olympic peninsula and Twilight in Forks? I wonder if someone in Hollywood vacations on the peninsula and then goes back and says "No one will know the difference if we choose this as our setting".

Sooooo...you judged an entire area based on one gas station and the people there? Right. Sure. Makes as much sense as me judging the people in Chicago based on Obama and their crime reports on TV.

You do know Ma and Pa Kettle was based on characters in a true book (of course with Hollywood liberalities taken) that actually did occur on the peninsula, didn't you? Check out the book The Egg and I.

But as to your point about Hollywood assuming no one will know the difference? Yup.
