Yup. The most accurate way is still self assessment...
Just look at this:
The website shows 84F with "few lingering showers are possible" - the outside thermometer shows 71F, and we had a thunderstorm and a very heavy rain...
Yes, own Observation is the absolute way (weather stations aren't expensive now).
The second best way is to look at official station OBS's but most are just on the hour so you wont get the "in between" readings such as your situation with the storm dropping temp. There's the co-op sites you can use too.
Other than that anything else is estimates.
Sites that show the weather are either using the closest stations OBS or an estimate based on model readings for the area. It doesn't know whats happening in your backyard.
Nice picture but take a look... June 12th.. San Antonio OBS. This site grabs data sooner than on the hour... You're picture shows 11:36pm. The last hourly data was the 85° which matches weather.com there of 84. I bet if you went back to the site at 12am it would show 73 which matches the actual OBS and near your 71 reading there.
^^^ Hmmm... interesting! I have to research all the links you posted. I also will check and match the temps more often, because I want to find the most accurate forecast source.
Thank you, Cambium!
I use wunderground.com. As for your rain, it is not uncommon here to look outside and see that it is raining, and then look at the radar and see that there is just a tiny cell that is no more than a couple of miles across. As a result, I might get a tenth of an inch, and the official stats from the airport, 3 miles away, will forever record for eternal posterity that it was a rainless day in my city.
Well, wunderground.com is no good either. It's 6:15 AM, and wunderground says that it's 80.8 degrees here. I have two outdoor thermometers - the needle on the dial type out on my patio looks like it's around 72 and the digital one in the kitchen window says 74.3 degrees. There's no way that it's 80 degrees outside right now. The sun isn't even up yet - it's still pitch dark. I just checked weather.com, and it says 75, so it's more accurate than wunderground - at least this time.

I know there's millions of posts and threads but sometimes I wonder if mine are getting read.
STOP using WeatherUnderground to compare or see what the weather is like UNLESS it's the main official station.
Most likely you are reading some backyard station that's not maintained, fixed or in correct location or ran by an unqualified person.
You don't have a location on your header or a link to that 80° reading so I can't help you. Nice to see you have your own thermometer though.
By the way, I'm in Clermont, FL, which is just 30 miles west of Orlando - very close to Disney World.
A little coffee and a scroll and I saw this..
The closest official station is Leesburg but looks like low to mid 70s are the temps around there. No 80s.
Even WeatherUnderground using the co-op station there is showing more accurate temp to yours. You have to be careful of those backyard weather stations.
Not sure why anyone would use weather.com anymore or even the Weather Channel in general to try and get local weather info.... so many more sources out there that are much better and more accurate.
