St Johns ,the sunnier of the two - also ideal for the cold lovers out there .

Valentia Island - difficult to tell summer from winter looking at this chart ,very mild throughout - never very warm

almost identical rainfall - both very wet

Valentia has pretty impressive record highs for a small island off the coast of Ireland.

It'll have to be my winner, St John's is simply too cold during the winter.

St John's. Sunnier, dryer, more snow, colder winters, warmer summers.

I prefer the summers in St Johns although the summers take an eternity to arrive - St Johns sunshine hours are superior - but the difference in temperature between these two is too much to ignore .

St Johns winter far too long, cold and gloomy - and St Johns is still pretty cold for most of the year
Valentia winter too gloomy and wet

two pretty miserable climates .

so Valentia it is for the milder temps

Valid points but St. John's hospitality wins it for me.

Summers do take a while but are glorious and fall is good too.

Valentia is super mild but way too dull and gloomy, not much better than Shetland.

It's a really hard one to call - it's one of those where I'd have to experience each in turn as they're not familiar conditions .

My reasoning for this result was I could handle 9-10 months in Valentia without going crazy - and 8-9 would be the absolute limit in St Johns .

Both these for me would win well over the Shetlands . That is a woeful one lol

When one takes into account that St John's is 5° Lat more southern than Valentia (47° vs 52°), et the same latitude as ...central France or the northernmost point of ...Italy, I find that climate terrible for the (relatively) low latitude. Valentia on the other hand I would say has a remarkable climate for that high latitude (I heard that some species of palm trees even manage to grow there) so undoubtedly my preference goes to Valentia!
