It's cloudy and near 8C. From a low of just at freezing overnight. If I can recall correctly, this should be around the time of year for the last spring frost in my city (though it's later for the suburbs and away from the heat island).

Especially thinking of a maritime climate, it's surprising you guys could be getting a spell that much above seasonal, and for that long. You guys have similar averages in April to where I am (for instance, 14C/5C is today's average here) but so many 20C+ days in spring would be unusual in my climate.

Your Aprils must be really variable, since as far as I can tell, you said that April has been known to be just as snowy and cold as January there, and now this.
This is almost certain to be the warmest April on record, the only question really is by how much, as the last few days of the month are meant to be cooler than of late. The weather can be variable but averaged out over a whole month it's rare to get big anomalies compared to winter - we're likely to be 3.something C above average (the highs more abnormal than the lows), whereas last December was something like 5.8 below. It's a shame there are no figures published for standard deviation, as April 2011 might turn out one of the strangest months there's ever been.

The warmest April on record was in 2007 with an average high of 18.8C (average is 14.3C). This month will finish with an average high of 20.0C (5.7C above average) if the forecast is correct.

By contrast the warmest month recorded in London, July 2006, had an average max of 28.3C (only 4.8C above average).

London's record high for April is 29.4C, set in 1949. This might be under threat tomorrow with a forecast high of 28C. What's strange is that the 29C record was set in mid-April, so it should be possible to record 30C or higher later in the month.
