Purely on climate? I would have said Boston, but Philly would have a bit of tropical influence that Boston does not. In terms of excitement I'd say somewherere like Kansas City.

Durban because it gets some tropical storms etc compared to Cape Town which is like Perth. Jo'burg is too high in crime.

Cape Town is more temperate than Perth, water is colder there too - note the presence of Great White Sharks, a bit like Albany WA.
Durban gets a wrap from most people, but it appears hotter than Brisbane here.
Not a fan of storms, we don't get a lot of them here, nearby Port Stephens gets more due to the coastline protruding out towards a peninsula there.
Forgot about Sao Paulo in Brazil, the 800 metre or 2500 feet elevation offers some reprieve from the tropical heat, and offers the 4 seasons.
Most other South American cities that are above sea-level are too actually too high, and are virtually mountain climates with minimal seasonal variation.
There is nowhere in Asia that I like, either too continental or too hot or too cold, but Tokyo is the "" best of the bad bunch"".

Considering Asia is so large, I'm sure there's at least some place that somewhat closely matches your preferences. Very temperate places or Mediterranean-like ones might be tricky because they're limited in area but there are some out there (ie. Turkey and the Black sea coast, highlands of the tropical parts of South/East Asia etc.)

Interesting fact, I think Asia lacks a true temperate maritime climate.

Couldn't highland areas in Asia's various mountains that are in the tropics or subtropics fit the bill? Though I don't know how closely they'd match the classical "British" climate to qualify.

I'd say Oceania is my favorite 'continent' climate-wise due to the (mostly) low diurnal and seasonal variations. Asia would be my least favorite (besides Antarctica, which is uninhabited). Asia just seems to have such extreme seasonal variation. The parts of Asia that don't are either too hot / humid or too cloudy.
