Well, whenever I went outside when the dew point was 78F (even when the temperature was only around 80F), I found it hard to breathe and it felt like my chest was being weighed down, and that feeling intensifies rapidly with each degree above 79F. That feeling of asphyxiation from what should be fresh air is not an experience I ever care to repeat; I may be scorched in a dry 110F, but it's more pleasant than a super-humid 80F.
One probably would survive, at least up to dews in the mid 80's, but thriving is out of the question (at least for me and most others I've talked to).
A dew point of 78 F was referred to as Deadly heat in central NJ. 5 backup generators were running at full power in Linden to make sure everybody was able to run their A/C's at full blast overnight.
How hot is it? In here, a 78F dewpoint is called everyday.
95 F with a dew point of 78 F . Average high/low in july is 87/63 F with a dew point of 57 F.
Wow, the average is cool and dry by my standards. And 95F + 78F? That can be very uncomfortable, especially when it's far from your comfort zone.
In here average high/low is about 89/77F with dewpoint of 76F (rainy season) & 70 F (dry season). A 95F day happens only once or twice a year usually in September or October so it isn't that bad for me.
87F high? That's about perfect but a 63F low? That can make me shiver if I wear a normal tshirt, though I should be fine with a thick sweater.
Our highest temperature/dew combination in recent years was probably on 1 August 2013, when the temp was 30C with a dew point of 21.7C, resulting in RH of 66%. Pretty 'good' going considering our lackluster summers.
We've had temps in the low 20s with dews in the low 20s as well, but I find the above more impressive, since temps that high are usually dry and not humid.
I didn't clear to scroll through all those records but 5 August 2012 saw a dewpoint of 26.3C. That's well above average, even for Hong Kong. (The day with the highest dewpoint on average, Jul 6, has a average dewpoint of 23C.)
We had a 23°C dewpoint at a temperature of 29°C last June, was most certainly one of the highest dewpoints ever record here. This together with scorching sunshine.
If you can enjoy that weather on your balcony, garden or at the beach in a swimming trunk than its quite nice, but if not it feels quite nasty to me.
This year, on January 23rd we had 36.0ºC (96.8ºF) with a dew point of 26.7ºC (80.1ºF) in Buenos Aires.
It ocurred at 5 pm and it was one the highest dew points I've ever experienced.
That day was tremendously oppresive and tied the highest daily minimum ever recorded (28.2ºC). The temperature at 4 am was 30.4ºC, I couldn't believe it when I saw such reading. Having said that, at the time of the highest temperature I was first at a bus stop under the sun and then travelling by bus without A/C. I hate that kind of days very much, but I didn't feel that bad that day. Soft clothes and cool drink helped a lot.

The high and dewpoint during the day isn't that nasty by my standards but the night is just...
The highest low I've ever experienced was only 26-27.
