Thanks - I haven't been there since 1968. Was in DC briefly in 1977 in August - there was plenty of haze but it was probably in a dry spell of weather.

Demographically, NYC hasn't changed much since the 70's. It is still about the same size (8 million). Though the suburbs have grown, most of the factories (which might have been spewing pollution) have shut down. There is not a huge amount of road infrastructure that's been built which leads me to say there are not too many more cars in the metro area than there were 30 or so years ago. Public transport remains huge - more than in any other US city but a good margin.

But the biggest factors are the coastal location and the changeable weather that keep air moving.

A-.

Summers could be wetter...but this looks like a really nice climate.

How cloudy is it during the year? I know western Michigan can be pretty gloomy, so it would be interesting to know what eastern Wisconsin is like in that regard.

I found a sunshine map that puts NE Wisc. in the 2000 to 2400 hrs. and I would say we fall closer to 2000 than the 2400 figure!

I couldn't copy the link. It was for a general area that included NE Wisc. the UP and the upper half of the LP of Michigan.

D. I have to say, this is a pretty grim climate. All ( brief) summer long, I would be thinking about the abrupt descent into autumn/fall. I would have to take up ice fishing, or buy some snowshoes.

I give it an 'E' even though this grade does not appear in American grading systems (it was the lowest grade at my university). I reserve 'F' for truly unlivable climates like Vostok Station. Two Rivers is cold and cloudy for most of the year and the summers are not warm enough to make up for it.

@susancruzs

When do the flowers, spring leaves come out? The lows look very similar to where I live, so they might be the same.

This year will be different because it is still unseasonably cold, 12 degrees this a.m.! Buds on trees in April, but leaves not until mid-May!

I have crocus come up every year, they are the first, will show in April even with snow on the ground. It is really late May before I'll get flowers on my iris or early lily plants. I have a few tulips and they might show in mid-May. It varies year to year and this year will be late.

You don't have crocuses yet?! Well not surprising considering your recent weather, but normally?

That's really late. Tulips are probably about to bloom in my hometown.
