Late spring: Highs in the 70s
Summer: 75 F+ (average summer highs are between 80-85 F), sunny, often humid
Early fall: Sunny and warm with highs in the 60s and 70s
Mid to late fall: Noticeably cooler with highs generally in the 50s and 60s. Crisper, falling leaves, etc.

Classic four season climate, albeit more moderate compared to parts of the midwest. Highest temperature most years are at least 95 F, lowest temperature 0 to -10 F. January's average temperature is 24 F, July's average temperature is 71 F. I'm pretty content with the climate here. Only thing I don't like are the summers. Highs in the 60s and 70s with low humidity (unless there's thunderstorms) would be ideal.
Yikes that is a cold winter. Your avg Jan temp is our avg Jan low. I consider winter to have avg highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Basically here that is Dec to Feb. New England and Philly do not have the same climate.

Spring and Autumn just fill in the gaps.
Am curious. What do you consider comfortable air and sea temps for comfortable swimming in the sea. I always thought of New Zealand as having cold ocean water.

Winter: lows in the 50sF, highs around 65F
Fall: lows in the mid 60sF, highs around 75F

I like a combination of summer and spring. Winters are way too cold.
Huh???
What about:
Winter: barely cool, but not enough
Spring: already hot ( tomorrow supposed to be 96F!!)
Summer: around 100F - is that hell or what??
Fall: still hot, but too tired to complain

Northeast:

There are four seasons:

almost winter,
winter,
still winter,
and road construction.

Southeast:

There are four seasons:

It's too early to be this hot,
I can't believe how hot it is,
Maybe it will cool down soon,
and winter.

Since daily means are usually reached at, or just after sunset...
I probably want it to be "always summer" but I do like some variation.

(Ideal)
Summer: Daily means of 77-84 F (26-29 C)
Autumn: Daily means of 70-76 F (21-25 C)
Winter: Daily means of 65-69 F (18-20 C)
Spring: same as Autumn

And here's where I grew up:
Summer: Daily means of 67-74 F (19-23 C)
Autumn: Daily means of 35-55 F (3-13 C)
Winter: Daily means of 10-32 F (-12 C to 0 C)
Spring: Daily means of 33-69 F (1-20 C)

Yeah people are often surprised at how cold the winters can get here considering it's New Jersey. We had several nights below zero this year, lowest being -11 F.

summer ... terribly hot and oppressive; bugs; little rain

spring ... tornadoes, hail, lightning, humid

fall ... cooler; nice rain

winter ... devine, especially when it snows

NZ annual average sea temps vary between 12C/53F down south, to 19C/66F up north. here it is 15.6C/59F, so possibly cool for the latitude. The warmest sea temp here is about 18-19C/ 66F, but the beach temps vary between 20-25C/68-77F. A shallow coast and sandy beaches warm the water up nicely, turbulent conditions can cool it off again. I find above 20C/68F water temps comfortable.

Summer = that time of year for crisp, clear mornings with heavy due and a temp in the upper 50's. Blue sky's and warm/hot afternoons of upper 80's with an occasional 100 degree temp. Nice cool evenings that require a sweater or light coat.

Fall = windy with a drastic change in temps. Occasional snow but few and far between. Light to medium jacket. Time of year that if you roll down the window in the truck, your too cold, but if you roll it up, it's too warm, even with the vent open. October snow with temps dipping into the teens with frost and even an occasional freeze. Few mornings with a skim of ice on the stock tanks.

Winter = constant snow, freezing temps dipping down to -40 on occasion with sup zero temps being the norm on early mornings. High temps into the 20's with an occasional day that thaws. Blustery winds that blow right through you. Sideways snow. Heavy drifts. Busting water in the stock tank because the tank heater can't keep up. Time to calve out or drop lambs.

Spring = like now. Warm temps into the 50's during the day with rain showers. Showers turning to snow in the late evening and all through the night. But the snow doesn't stick because the ground is thawing and the snow melts on contact. Temps at night in the 20's and occasionally dipping into the teens. Frost until mid April and then it transitions into late spring when there is no frost and daytime temps into the 60's with an occasional 70. Harsh thunderboomers and occasional severe weather going into mid to late June.

An old Wyoming saying. This year, we're planning on having summer on the 7th of July from 1 to 3 pm. Bring your picnic baskets.

Two years ago, I went camping on the 22nd of August. I got snowed on.
