We just had our last (probably) real cold front come through, so the northern coast has dropped to around 75F, but South Padre Island is up to 80F! Still no 80 degree low (air) temperatures yet though

Yes…most of the current NOAA sea surface temp maps seem to show that sea surface temps have jumped quickly across the Gulf and south Atlantic waters. Although for weeks in has been in the 80’s and 90’s across the Gulf and Florida, it might also be that this time of year the surface currents that come out of the tropical Atlantic and Caribbean start to strengthen.

These maps are about 48 hours old…but they show 25 – 27 C (77-81 F) seas have reached parts of the coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico…while 28 C (82 F) seas are running through the Florida Keys…

…and it’s only mid May (lol). Where will we be by mid August?
