A yearly mean temperature of 38*F???!!! The summers might be better then Death Valley's (though no where near preferable), but winter looks brutal. Long brutal winters < a few months of high heat. At least the nights are comfortable...

"much hotter"? I don't think so. I just checked Kuwait City and actually Death Valley has hotter avg highs in July and August, not by much mind you. C'mon, how many inhabited places in the world are "much hotter" than Death Valley?

Am curious, do they (weather experts, etc) have thoughts on what the actual accurate recorded highest temps on earth are then, if those two are inaccurate?

Death Valley for me. Although I have to admit, even me being a heat lover, Death's Valley's record highs are a bit too extreme for me. At worst, I could probably stay inside during the day on the hottest days and go out in the evenings.

Unalaska by a mile. I don't even get the comparison. An extreme desert climate with a maritime climate? A more appropriate comparison would be an extreme subarctic climate like Verkhoyansk.

I agree, a more appropriate battle would have pitted Death Valley against some of the places in Siberia, or the Interior or North Slope of Alaska.
Either way, as much as I despise constant rain, and as much as Unalaska looks as though it gets absolutely no real summer at all, I must still choose Unalaska over Death Valley. Most definitely!

It's like asking if I'd prefer to be shot or hanged. But I would say Death Valley, assuming I have access to AC. Unalaska is year-round misery -- Death Valley would have nice weather for half of the year.

Both climates do not have my ideal weather.
I rate Death Valley weather a C while Unalaska weather gets an F-.
So I still would easily pick Death Valley over Unalaska.
Death Valley gets a bit too hot for 5 months of the year during the middle of the afternoon and is a bit too dry. But Unalaska weather is just much worse for being too perpetually cold, cloudy, and wet with such low anemic annual sunshine. I can like cloudy and wet weather plenty of times and cold weather sometimes but not anywhere close to the level that Unalaska takes it.
There would be more extended time periods I would like Death Valley weather over Unalaska.
