Air conditioning is very harmful to the environment. It typically consumes more power in the home than any other electrical draw.

People on here who cannot stand an indoor temperature higher than 70 or 72 - I ask you, Can you even tolerate being outside at all in the summer? Do you go the beach? What babies people have become! I really abhor the fact that now air-conditioning is everywhere. It is artificial. I grew up in FL and we had no air conditioning in our schools, nor my family's car. We only used our home air-conditioning at night on the most sweltering nights. During the day, even in the summer, it was not on at all. Jeez, I do not recall anyone at school complaining about "how hot it is." You just adapted.

In Europe people can tolerate nature and the heat better. So many Americans are bio-phobic.

A/C should only be used when temps are higher than 35°C (95°F)

I've noticed that places in coastal southern California always have the Air Conditioning on, even if it's 70 or below outside. It can make it very chilly indoors.

I work a night shift and the air conditioning is programmed to come on at 7am...in a Scottish winter. Not pleasant.

I read somewhere that only after A/C was invented or "perfected" that skyscrapers came into being. Could you imagine being in NYC during a heatwave and working in a skyscraper without A/C? Not possible.

Why American people turn on the AC even during a beautiful 80-85 degree day ?
In m'y opinion AC would work only when the temp get over 90 degree.

I barely use the AC because of the short heatwaves we get. The cool changes act like a natural AC There's at least 3 or 4 times a summer where I have to use it.

Can't imagine needing AC here unless the summer temps were a good 10 degrees higher.
