I'm much more comfortable when my shadow is shorter than me; means the sun is giving decent heat-output.

I suppose I'm basically a tropical-person,
as I still look for ways to warm up most winter days in Australind
but its SO much easier to get warm in winter here, than even Toronto in October.
Even in August, at least in the morning, the weather can get noticeably cooler. But through much of September, the days are still warm and I find the sun to be pretty strong. Though I guess Toronto's autumn weather may be a couple weeks ahead of here.

I don't like the end of March and beginning of April. Things are ugly and muddy while the snow melts off.

I find summer here dull because it's too hot and sunny. Sounds like the UK has very comfortable summer weather. I prefer cloudy weather, though I do occasionally enjoy a clear day. Sunny weather itself doesn't necessarily bother me (though weeks of it do get old), it's the long days that I don't like. I'd rather it be cloudy or dark around the 3PM-5PM time frame.

I enjoy rain, though of course I didn't enjoy getting 8 inches in one weekend!

December in Fort Collins. It's the darkest month and although not the coldest, its pretty close. And I don't like the Christmas madness.

Are days of sunny weather more common in winter than summer in the UK? I thought it would have been the opposite.

Over the past 5 years, summers have become increasingly poor and cloudy. Winters on the other hand have become colder, drier, snowier and sunnier, hence many parts of the UK had their sunniest December on record last year.

The second half of September, the sun becomes rarer, the wind speeds pick up and the temperatures feel more like October than what we had on Labour Day.

Simply, definitely NOT.

Even this July had 160-170 hours of sun compared with 20-30 last December.

Clearly sunshine totals will be higher in July than December simply because daylight hours are significantly longer. However, depending on your location, December 2010 was a very sunny month, and I do recall more crystal clear sunny days in December than at all this summer.

We got maybe 2 sunny days here last December.

Totalled 27 hours, which is probably about 12-14% of the max we could get.

Even this Uber Dull august of only 105 hours got about 23% of the max possible though.

In England winters are generally totally overcast every day and when we do get a clear sunny easterly for a day or two it's a very very rare thing.
