So what would you rather be stuck in......a F5 Joplin Tornado or a Category 5 Hurricane Andrew?

That's a tough one. Hurricanes usually have more widespread damage, but typically there's much more warning than a tornado. I'll say tornado is worse since it often comes with little warning. While being stuck in a hurricane could be a deadly situation, at least you have a chance to attempt preparation.

Living is South Florida, and coming from the midwest I would have to say that dealing with a hurricane would be easier to deal with.

From a damage standpoint strong hurricanes are devasting and can be life changers. Yet there are days of advance warning for hurricanes----many advisories are given as are evacuation orders. If you are a logical person you heed the warnings and move on to safe ground.

With devasting tornadoes one usually may have 15-20 minutes of warning if you are fortunate. A lot of areas may not have adequate siren warnings and preparation for tornadoes.

In hurricanes you can replace your property----in tornadoes you are more likely to lose your life or lives of loved ones----thus, I vote tornadoes.

I'd say F5 Tornado, you can do more to protect yourself in a hurricane of any category, and there's plenty of time to evacuate/prepare yourself, however if an F5 Tornado hits your house.. then you're toast.

Tornado would be worst. I lived a Hurricane (dont know what category though, it was in Mar del Plata in the 90s and i was a kid) that was pretty scary (trees falling over houses in my nb, things flying around, a boat that got stuckedi n the sea for years, and the worst one: me and familiy going on a car and giant tree falling right the second we passed it!!! one second less and well all be dead!!) but people knew there were a hurricane coming so we all protected for when hurricane arrived.

I think a tornado is more brutal and wont tell. Just come and destroy.

Hurricane because it has more widespread damage. Also tidal surge. Ike was just a cat2 and flooded areas from galveston texas to mid coastal Louisana. One hurricane can hit mnay islands then hit and a cat 5 can destory a areas the size of mnay states.Lo what just the rains did to northeast. If your killed byeither one it makes no difference but the danme of a cat 5 hurricane can be mouc more wide spread and just as bad as tornado.

Secret option C: 5.0 earthquake.

Seriously though, having never been in either or tornado or a hurricane (have been through several earthquakes though lol) it is hard for me to decide. We've had severe windstorms here, have at least one every year, but I know it still doesn't compare. Anyway, as has already been said, at least with hurricanes you have more of a chance to prepare yourself, although the damage is generally much more wide spread. A sudden large tornado, even if short lived, would probably be a lot scarier than a a large hurricane you had time to prepare for before it reaches you.

I guess it’s like saying would you rather be hit by a freight train or a jumbo jet - neither is a good option (lol). Still a cat 5 tropical cyclone (155-mph or higher) is the end game, it can turn a whole section of a state into a wastland. In any event, these very short clips speak for themselves:

FLORIDA:

An F5 tornado, since tornadoes are much harder to predict than hurricanes, where you often have several days of warning to evacuate (and some people choose to stay put...)
