If it's anything like San Francisco (it also has a cold current running beside it) it causes fog to build up in the summer because the water is cooler than the land. But, Guayaquil is warm year round so, don't know. If you had asked me 4 years ago, I could have told you since in my old church I know people from Guayaquil

D. Unlike the Galapagos Islands or Peru, the Humboldt current does not cool this place down enough. Low sunshine is good at these temps.
There is a wet and dry season, but the lack of real seasons (only heat) is the real undesireable feature of equatorial climates.

I think I actually prefer lower sunshine totals at equatorial latitudes because it means that all the sun worshippers can go to climates where sunshine totals are much higher and I still get warm enough temps that I can do all the watersports I like outdoors year round with very little precip half the year as a bonus

A+! Really liking it: tropical warmth, wet and dry, slight cooling in the dry, low sunlight at the equator, fog possibilities! As good as I could ask for from from a major city ( I don't think my dream climate exists... )

I gave it an F, which means it must be perfect for you! Aside from the climate, it actually looks like an amazing place. Maybe if I visited in one of the cooler months I could tolerate the heat well enough to really enjoy the city.

I found monthly sunshine and humidity charts that is making me rethink my A+ to a B or B+: the dry months are more cloudy than the wet months, and humid. I'm not sure if I'd like the long months of dry AND humid AND overcast, inspite of the fact that it has a fun wet season and no hurricanes.

D. Hot and humid year-round, arid for most of the year, excessively rainy for the rest and extremely cloudy to boot.

Weird how this place is just about on the equator yet it has a long (and very pronounced) dry season -- five months of the year during which less than 10 mm (0.4'') of rain falls in total!

I found another source which gives a mere 1200 sunshine hours: http://www.worldclimateguide.co.uk/c.../guayaquil.php

I'm guessing this is due to the 'garua'?
