You can't expect anomalies to stay on one side of the register forever...

But you're unlikely to ever experience the kind of unwelcome change the North Island had during 1951-56. Although temperatures were a bit higher than in the earlier years, the sunshine record was quite a different matter. The previous 20 years had been generally sunnier than longterm averages (and still show that way after another 60 years of data collection); but each of the new 6 years was below or near average, with 1953 and 1956 being particularly cloudy. 1956 was also the wettest year on record for the northern half of the island, and also wet over the remainder. This change would seem fairly drastic to anyone who notices such things.

Looking at our forecast it seems as though we'll be lucky to get more than a day or two over 20 C for the remainder of the month. And there's no shortage of cold, gloomy, rainy weather!

I envy you Chester. Yesterday and today we hitted 30 celsius with humidity above 70%. Im dreaming about those beautiful 15 celsius 30% humidity days.
