Not for you guys - but for the folks in the UP - man, they'd have to deal with post-9:30 sunrises in winter - whew!
The odd thing about that place, they used to be on Central time, AND they didn't have DST. I guess they just get used to hours and hours of darkness in the mornings - either that, or they just sleep in longer.
I know but we don't live at your latitude, we don't need to deal with sunrise times that late. It would be 8:30 for many on the western half of the time zones, my times are earlier than most. And yes, 8 am is considered unacceptably late for sunrise here, no one cares that it's normal in the UK.

Spain had 8:30 am sunrises when I visited... sunset was at about 7:45 pm though.

When I visit the UP (Houghton) this January, I'm going to ask the locals what they think of their uber-late sunrise times, and if they'd prefer to swich over to Central Time. It'd be interesting to see if they think it's "unacceptable" or not...lol.

What do the locals think of that? Do they just take it as it comes, or is there a desire to re-center the solar noon? Argentina has the same sort of situation with their solar noon, especially on the western edge. (Something like 1:30 pm in mid-winter.)
It's curious as to why the Eastern Time Zone cuts so far west in that part of the country - they're further west than Chicago. I'd love to explore the history as to why the shift was made. Hopefully I'll get some answers when I visit.
The USA is so big that it is hard to do timezones that suit everyone.
