5:00 am to 9:50pm - as you just quoted - is not 17.5 hours. It is 16 hours 50 minutes. 39 minutes longer than mine today

Yeah he probably did.. but I clearly said 'today' to him when talking about the sunset/sunrise times.. a 16hour + day is not short!
