25°C/78°F water, 30°C/86°F air. Unfortunately, the Channel never reaches the "comfortable" level. I still go for a swim in it from time to time, but these aren't optimal swimming conditions to me.
70 F water temperature and 80 F + air temperature. Although it could still feel a little chilly. Last summer was great because the max water temp was 78 F!!! Normally the highest is only 72 F here.
If the pool is heated to 84 F, I can swim as long as it's above 55 F outside (done it in the winter here at our local club). If the pool is solar heated, it needs to be at least 75 F outside to bring the pool to the same temperature. In order to swim in lakes, it has to be above 85 F outside.
24C+ air temperature and 15C+ sea temperature as a bare minimum for ocean swimming. The 28C-30C sea temperatures that you get in SE Asia are ideal for me though.
