Some rain for the garden would be nice. Only 4 days in the last 6 weeks. Even though the total is a respectable 159mm/6.4 inches, it's still getting rather dry.
During the "big cold" of July/August2000, the mid afternoon the mid afternoon temp here dropped from 11 down to -3C just before darkness. I hope never to see another cold snap like that here again.
Yes but this is under high pressure not a cold front.
EDIT: Why does it always happen on these high pressure periods that the temp drops like a rocket at sunset and then rises after sunset and stalls and then only drops about 2c in 8 hours.
In Aboyne the temperature dropped about 12c in 4 hours. And in the last hour it has risen by 0.2c
Same here it dropped to 2c from 10c in 3 hours and now it has stalled in clear skies? This country is weird. I guess we have to wait for the cool air to come on Thursday for proper cold nights.
7.1/-0.6°C (44.8/30.9°F) and wall to wall sunshine today.

It isn't just your country, same thing here. Due to this high pressure, 850 hPa temps are quite mild (above 4°C in Scotland), so the temperature inversion over bare ground shows its limit. Like you said, hopefully this should change from thursday on with cooler uppers.
2c with a bit of wind. Looking forward to 30-45 cm of snow on the weekend of my birthday (23rd and 24th)
