Again, I hope you're not specifically speaking about Marion because its daily average in April is 7°C (44°F) and average high is 14°C (57°F). Barrow, AK probably won't get above freezing in April. The rest of USA will

Again you are looking at averages based on temps over several years time. Most of the time the actual temperatures will be quite a bit higher or lower.

This is my first year in Marion, last year we were living 100 miles further west. I was not able to till my garden until mid May. but I was using a hand tiller. those doing large scale gardens and plowing with tractors or Motorized Tillers were able to plow in early April. But for hand tilling it was too frozen to break ground until mid May.

As I said I'll be posting the banner nearly everyday and even if I miss any days they are "Live" banners and update about every hour.

Where I live we can't plant the garden until June, beginning of June. The flowers are not even out until mid may usually.

I agree about this year being cold, in the start of April, there will be just as much snow as January.

See the forecast for next week, not warming up:

Winnipeg, Manitoba - 7 Day Forecast - Environment Canada

Next week 3 days with highs below -10c ( January temps)

But March is still more or less a winter month in alot of places.

I know here it is a mix but we generally don't exceed 15c. This year is pretty cold though.

Looking at the possibility of a snowstorm this weekend. We shall see.

Much of North Dakota is at a high altitude. Marion were I now live is at 1460 feet (445 M) much of the state is about the same

The Elevation at Devils lake is

SOURCE
North Dakota...high altitude Highest point in ND is White Butte at only 3506 feet

It's all relative.

Phoenix elevation is about 1100 feet and it's considered a low elevation city in AZ
Tucson at 2389 feet and Las Vegas, NV at 2000 ft are not considered high elevation
1500 feet ASL in the US intermountain west is considered low elevation.
Many western cities are much higher,
Denver 5280 ft
Salt Lake City 4219 ft
Reno, NV 4498 ft
Albuquerque, NM 4935 ft
El Paso,TX 3750 ft

1500 ft elevation in North Dakota imo does not impact temps significantly.
Average ND elevations range from about 800 to 900 ft in the east along the Red River
to 2000-2500 ft range in the west (Williston is at 1882 ft, Dickinson 2417 ft)
Ironically higher western ND has milder winters than lower eastern ND
As for ice in ND lakes in june, not likely, I suppose in freakishly cold spring year it could happen,
very early june, certainly not late june, LOL

Both North Dakota and Manitoba can experience some very cold temps in spring but also
some surprisingly hot days too. I remember swimming at Winnipeg Beach in late May and it was pretty warm (about 80F). Also in late may, I remember being in Valley City, ND, just west of Fargo and it was scorching hot out (almost 90F) my car A/C could barely keep up.

It is not usual for frozen lakes here in June but it does happen. It happens fairly often in May were I have seen it at least once during my 4 years here. So far during the past 4 years there has been ice on the lakes until at least mid April.

Here is an article and video about the June 6, 2009 Snowfall in Dickinson ND

Video: Snow in June in Dickinson, North Dakota; first time in 60 years | GORE LIED

I am quite certain this year we will still have snow on the ground until at least early May, maybe even until early June. I am basing that on what the weather was like in 2009. This year reminds me very much of 2009. Unless we get a sudden heat wave I do not see the lakes free of Ice until after April.

But, we will see what ever happens.
