A colder, drier, sunnier month. I would have thought it was a warmer month without looking at the figures- it goes to show how little perception counts for regarding temperatures.
"(Most)Humans make lousy thermometers". Extra sunshine on the skin after a very cloudy October would help to strengthen the impression of warmth.

I'm happy with a slight surplus here at 223 hours - after October's abysmal 127! (equal 3rd lowest in over 100 years of data). However the YTD will end up short even if December is quite sunny - need 286 hours (60 above average) just to reach the 1971-2000 annual average (1981-2010 average is way out of reach).

"Normal" November weather usually means dreary, cloudy weather with frequent fog, mixed with an occasional Atlantic windstorm, a cold outbreak from the east, or a few days of bright sunny weather with temperatures between 15 and 20°C
Edinburgh gets on average about 40% more sun hours than Kraków in November, although, due to it's location a full 6 degrees further north, there is 20 hours less daylight in Edinburgh compared to Kraków.
Edinburgh (1971-2000) averages 68 hours in November. What's the Krakow average?

Sounds like a really cold November to me!

Average High: 56°F
Average: 45°F (normal is 40°F)
Average Low: 33°F

Highest Max: 69°F
Highest Min: 51°F

Lowest Max: 39°F
Lowest Min: 20°F

Precipitation: 3.27 inches
Highest in 1 day: 1.35 inches
Snowfall: Trace ?

Highest Dewpoint: 61°F
Lowest Dewpoint: 19°F

Weekends tended to be sunny, most weekdays (except Mondays) were cloudy.

Summary: An unusually mild November. The mildness was especially noticeable the last week where we had a number of day go above 60°F accompanied by relatively humid air and warm nights. The last day was listed as having a high of 62°F, but it was at midnight, and then slowly cooled as the night went onward, flattening out in the day and then cooling some more.

Both November and September were well above average, while October was slightly above average. I'm curious how this Fall ranks. This year should rank as one of the wettest on record as well. The numbers I have are rounded, but the Sep-Nov average is 54°F. Record is 54.2°F.

Are the figures out for 1981-2010? An article in last nights Nelson Evening Mail, has Blenheim leading the sunshine stakes for this year, with Whakatane 2nd, and Nelson 3rd. It contradicts their own weather page, that has Nelson ahead of Blenheim by 86 hours.

The article is clearly nonsensical. Provisional totals for sun (Nov) are Whakatane 243, Blenheim 237, Nelson 253. October totals YTD were Nelson 2036, Blenheim 1955, Whakatane 1946. That gives YTD November as Nelson 2289, Blenheim 2192, Whakatane 2189 - the latter only 3rd despite EWS readings which are still suspiciously high. On the other hand, I don't think the Blenheim site exposure is optimal and they should improve it.

No, 1981-2010 numbers aren't out - I have just calculated Wellington for myself from data downloaded from CiFlo. Given NIWA resources these days, it will probably be quite a long time before they publish updated 20-year normals - as in some cases sites get moved or significantly changed, or have some gaps in their records, calculating normals is not just a case of computing averages for such places.

Temps slightly below average, sunshine slightly above average, rain significantly above average. This was the first month since April in which I did not find myself unhappy most of the time. There was still a lot of foul weather, but we had some really great days as well (mostly in the last week of the month).

The national figures have come in:

Central England Temperature: 9.75C (+2.8C)
England and Wales Rainfall: 49.4mm (-51%)
England and Wales Sunshine: 66 hours (-1%)

The second-warmest November in 350 years of records, just 0.35C off the freakish month that was November 1994. Unlike that November however this one was dry with normal amounts of sunshine and fewer strong gales than often. This autumn has also been the second warmest since records began, with much of the country not having seen a single frost and low rainfall totals almost everywhere.

What a difference 3 days make. I found the "missing files", 3 days of figures from the daily newspaper (from an official site)

I can't find it for my town, yet. But for larger cities in the region, it was the warmest November on record for Worcester (50 miles to the east) and 7th warmest for Hartford (50 miles to the south). Boston recorded its 2nd warmest November and NYC its 5th. But most of our records go back to the mid to late 1800s so it's not as impressive. Still, it seems like the 1600-1800s were distinctly colder than today so it was unlikely to break records back then, but it is a few hundred years.

Boston recorded its warmest autumn on record.
