We can get highs in the single digits (F) and maybe two or three nights a year below zero anywhere between December and February, most likely in January. The hottest you can expect on a regular basis is a bit over 70F (close to 80 if it's getting really crazy) anywhere from late May to early August. Our small annual temperature range and maritime influence means that there's not really one peak time for high or low temps, it just depends on the patterns coming out of the Gulf.

Here in Los Angeles, August & September can be really hot, while the wettest three months are March, February & January, in that order.

Late July and early August is the warmest time of the year with 22° C highs and 15° C lows on average. Late January and early February are the coldest, that's when cold waves from Siberia usually arrive.

Exactly the same for us except our summer highs are closer to 30C and the winter winds come from Hudson Bay and the Arctic, not Siberia.

Looks like Chicago sees more below zero nights than you do.

Hottest: June - September
Coldest: January - February

Frequently, the coldest temperature of the year happens in January instead of February, despite the fact that February is only 0.5C warmer.
