I know winter fans want wall to wall cold (lol)...but it looks like lows stoped falling around 2:00 am last night in much of Florida. So I don't think any records were broken. The lowest temp I saw for Orlando was 32 F....and for Miami 43 F.

It look likes Bokeelia did not reach 29F. I checked a station inland from there at Page Field, Fort Myers, and the low was 34F.

Some records either fell or came very close. Alma, GA set a new record low of 19 F. Tallahassee, FL dropped down to 19 F, only 1 F above the record. Gainesville, FL tied the 112 year old record of 20 F. Homestead didn't come close to freezing as expected, but did drop down to 38 F. Myrtle Beach, SC dropped down to 21 F, 3 F above the record (last night I mis-read the record low for January 4th).

Still an impressive event nonetheless for Florida and the southeast. Had there been snow on the ground in more of the eastern US, it probably would have been colder. There was also some wind and cloud cover, which probably moderated temperatures somewhat.

Some lows from a handful of other cities:

NYC (Central Park): 15 F
Washington, DC: 17 F
Virginia Beach: 21 F
Philadelphia, PA: 14 F
Albany, NY: 4 F
Boston, MA: 11 F
Saranac Lake, NY: -17 F

Here in the hills of NW New Jersey, it dropped down to 9 F. Currently only 17 F under cloudy skies.

"Overnight, record lows were set in Alma at 19 degrees (breaking record of 20 set in 2001) and Gainesville, 20 degrees (breaking record of 22 set in 1900). Record lows were tied in Jacksonville, 22 degrees (set in 1887), Tallahassee, 18 degrees (set in 1928), and Appalachicola, 26 degrees (set in 2010)."

Actually, New York City went down to 13 degrees instead from around 2 am to 7 am.

Most of that time, the 13 degrees came with a -2 below zero windchill and quite a bit of wind.

The temperature dropped rapidly between 10pm and 2am. I thought the temperature was going to continue to drop rapidly from 2am until 7am and maybe even to 5 degrees/-15 windchill by the rate it was going but it actually stayed steady during that time for 2am to 7am.

Yes you're right. I'll have to double check the other numbers I posted. I wonder where Cambrium got his. I looked at NOAA and wunderground.

13°F is actually impressive for NYC. We only dropped to 7°F; but it felt very cold because I'm not used to those temperatures as it's been so mild.

I agree.

At first, this Cold Arctic blast didn’t seem like it was going to be that impressive (such as 3 to 5 days before in the forecast) but it packed quite a punch for plenty of places in the Northeast, and Southeastern USA.

What was a bit surprising was the temperatures north of NYC/Philadelphia/Washington DC for plenty of places wasn’t that much colder than NYC/Philadelphia/Washington DC. In most cold blasts, it gets much colder not that much further north.

Even parts of Interior New England and parts of Quebec wasn’t that much colder.

Also, this arctic blast came with more wind than usual. New York City was quite windy the past 2 days before today and also today up until this morning/early afternoon.

This arctic blast is already going to leave by tomorrow though with temperatures above average by tomorrow and for the next 10 days in a row.

Which numbers? I usually post the source but maybe I forgot. If you're talking official numbers for NYC use this. They update twice a day. 1am and 4pm. So the 4pm will have this mornings lows.
National Weather Service Text Product Display

Yesterdays high in NYC was 33 and ironically it came just after midnight cause temps dropped from there. Was 15* just before midlnight last night.

Normal low for them is 28. Looks like 13 degrees was their low.

Or you can use this. OBS every 2 hours. National Weather Service : Observed Weather for past 3 Days : New York City, Central Park

Or use this. Hourly OBS. Just click on pages for previous hours.

I used the 3-day observations, NOWdata, and wunderground (official stations) to verify the temperatures and historical records.
