Interested to know what kind of extreme weather you guys have been through be it hurricanes/cyclones/typhoons, snow/ice storms, heavy rain, tornadoes or anything else.

The most extreme event I've experienced is probably the March 2010 hailstorm , this storm produced the largest hail ever recorded in Perth, up to 6cm (2.4") and caused widespread damage. It also came after amount 3-4 months of complete drought.

The following video was taken about 3 streets down from where I live coincidentally.

I hate mentioning this but both ends of weather, the midwest 1967 snow storm where everything was at a standstill for days and the 1995 heat wave that killed hundreds of people in Chicago.

Buenos Aires summers

no, for real now (?), i was in a Hurricane when i was little in Mar del Plata. I wish i remember the year, it were the early 90s: huge trees were falling, roof the houses were flying away, and i remember trying to go to school and seeing a tree falling just behind our car. One less second and weve died. And school was cancelled for a couple of days.

One day in January 1995, when over 40cm (16in) of snow fell in less then 3 hours. I'll always remember this.

That's a tough one, but I think Irene was the worst. The ground was already saturated, several more inches of rain fell, then there was a dangerous wind storm afterwards that toppled a lot of trees. The damage and flooding was the worst I've ever seen in my town.

Tropical Storm Floyd in 1999 was pretty bad, but we were coming off a drought at that point.

Wow, was it in Leeds? Would like to see it happen here...

As for me, it was the "Lothar" storm in December 1999. Orly airport posted 173 km/h (108 mph) gusts. But it was early in the morning and everybody was inside.
Maybe then the August 2003 heatwave. Not really extreme in for some warm summer people here but it killed far more people than any storm did. The 10-day average reached 37.6C/23.3C (99.7F/73.9F). Pretty tough without AC. I lived in the city centre, hence significantly warmer nights.

Yeah, it was. Funny thing is, the winter as a whole was not cold, just that one day had amazing snow.

Nothing much for me...I'd say living in Perth the same event would be up there. No giant-sized hail fell where I live (the biggest 2cm across) but definitely felt the impact. I've experienced some winter storms in my time.

Odd how I remember the hot 1995 summer and snowy 1995/6 winter well yet I'm not sure if I can remember the event you're talking about at all and I was living only about 20 miles from Leeds - I remember it snowing the last weekend in that month and a load of FA Cup matches getting postponed - would it have been that day? Even so, I don't remember there being that much snow.

Most extreme event I've ever experienced was the August 2003 heatwave in France which broke all sorts of records, though a windstorm which blew the roof off a nearby house on Christmas Eve night 1997 was pretty memorable too.

It was the 26th of January - it was caused by a slow area of low pressure crossing Yorkshire which is why the snowfall was so deep in such a short period of time. There's references to it on websites.

If you're interested, here's the chart for the day of the 26th showing the Low Pressure crossing the country
