The other point of course was that Ch'ch is both drier and less rainy than the other cities on that list (except for London's rainfall).

Annual Sunshine in Canadian Cities - Current Results

In the US:
Phoenix: 3872
Miami 3154
Boston 2623
Chicago 2508
NYC: 2535

Even Seattle: 2170 (the lowest on the list) has considerable more sunshine than Vancouver
Average Annual Sunshine in US Cities - Current Results

Unfortunately, the rumor is true - Vancouver's weather is pretty horrible if one likes the sun. There is actually hardly any major city which has less sunshine than Vancouver.
Keep in mind US sunshine stats tend to be on the high side
as noted numerous times in this forum.
When comparing US and Canadian data either add 200 hrs to Canadian data
or chop 200 hrs off US data for a more accurate comparison
I know a few on here will disagree

By the way, no disputing Vancouver is gloomy Oct to April but...
the warmer half of the year Vancouver,BC is reasonably sunny,
infact sunnier and drier than most people would imagine

This is a good link for the US cities. If you scroll down you'll find 10 "wettest" by avg. annual precip and 10 "rainiest" by days per year. It's a cool link, but sorry nothing about Vancouver though.

Here's the one for Europe

Interesting European Weather Facts and Extremes

Someone mentioned London is 'very foggy' compared to anywhere in Italy.. obviously not the case.

I think the number of days with precipitation includes <1mm and snow/sleet.

226 days per year with trace precipitation? It's more like 140. Not even NW England gets 226 days, maybe the Scottish Highlands! Paris isn't even on the list and it gets about 155 days.

Dublin only gets 139? That doesn't sound right, more like 170-180.

Looks like a junk list. Wouldn't trust any of its content.

wow, i cant believe London and Paris are 6th and 7th hottest cities?? lol, that talks of how cold europe really is if those cities are among the hottests.
lol, an amsterdam is also there?? I dont think that can be right, though, im guessing there would be many greece/italy/spain/portugal cities warmer than amsterdam netherlands??? is this accurate you europeans? how can amsterdam be warmer than 99% of italy/spain or greece???

I wish there was some page similar to that about latin or south america.

London Heathrow hardly gets any foggy days, maybe 15-20 per year. Central London obviously gets fewer. Greenwich gets a few more than Heathrow.

Talking of precipitation, Heathrow gets 100 days with 1mm or more, and 140 days of trace precipitation.

really intersting. Im shocked to see Chicago isnt among the windiest cities. Chicago is known for being the windy city! But there are a lot of windier cities and even Boston and NY are windier than Chicago.

Im shocked to see the percentages of annual sunshine too. It never ceases to amaze me how sunny USA is. Those 10 places with more than 80% of possible sunshine: wow!

The "windy city" name was nothing to do with the weather - it was the politicians, according to legend.

If Redding is on that list of sunniest cities, take it off mentally.
