I consider it early spring when the average high is above 20 C (68 F), and late spring when the average high is above 26 C (79 F).

Early spring: The start of early spring is for me once the high hits 12°C for the first time.
Typical average temperatures for early spring: 8 to 15°C (47-59°F)

Late spring: When the mercury hit 20°C for the first time.
Typical average temperatures: 13 to 20°C (55-68°F)

60-65 F is early spring

80-85 F is late spring.

I wish it were cooler.

Late spring can be cooler than early spring easily here.
We can have a March heat wave pushing 100 F yet have days in May with highs in the 60s (last two days topped off in the LOW 60s here even though it's almost May and what I consider "late" spring.
May Gray and June Gloom bring cool, on-shore winds and the marine layer from the ocean while early spring can feature dry off shore winds bringing high temperatures with very low dewpoints.

Late Spring: 85-88 F (29-31 C)

Yeah, not much variance here.

Are you not defining spring as March to May? It seems too cool for East NC.

The climate in the South does not corresponding well with the definition.
It only briefly shows that what I'm used to cope with my native continental four season climes.
