A question, when does the fall foliage usually peak in color in your area? When I visited Adelaide in May of '86, I was struck by the beautiful foliage in the hill towns around that city, and it was interesting to note that their peak in May matches the peak in the US South in November, exactly six months off from each other. When I was in Melbourne some weeks prior (early April, iirc), there was no sign of color change at all, and it was hot and dry as it could be, about 90 F.

we are having a very cold (for this time of the year) end of april. Most nights are around 10celsius, while days are around 15/16 celsius. Most people call this "chilly", i call this beautiful. Its true that this numbers are unusually low for april (normal forecast this days is something around 5/15c, while average for april is 14/24) but we already had an above average april until the cold arrive so im fine with this cold wave evening it out. But people in the street seem to think that if we are having this temps in april, its gonna be snowing in June .
Yeah, right.
Im enjoying the winter temps, but predicting we will get to warmer temps in may, and i will be missing 7 celsius mornings. They will come, anyway, sooner or later. For now, i have a little bit of a cold , but im SO happy that i dont care! I love winter and colds are the only bad side of it. At least i get to wear clothes i like and get to feel the amazing sensation of the sun hitting your face in a cold day. Every day.

Also, my boyfriend told me the other day that i became progressively more of a winter fan. He is right. I think before entering city-data i wasnt such a fan of winter . I mean, i sure loved BA winters and sure hated summer (but my favourite season was fall, not winter), but somehow hanging in this forum so much made me realize i love winter more than anything, i love actual cold temperatures (for buenos aires standards, of course) and that i feel like a child with a new toy when cold temps start. The other night, temp was around 9, i was walking around without a scarf with my bf while he was complaining and i was like "dont you just LOVE this feeling??". He laughed and said "you have become a cold lover, havent you? ".
I also been feeling, since last year, that im more tolerant to cold, or, to put it one way, that i love to feel the cold. Examples: i arrive home in a 5 celsius night and first thing i do: open ALL windows. I dont use heater in winter. I slept with my windows open the entire last winter (and it was a cold one), i dont wear a scarf unless im coughing or start feeling sick. If im in a bus in a winter morning, i tend to open windowns and people look at me with angry looks . Everyone i know likes to sleep with a lot of blankets and cozy pijamas and socks in winter. I sleep with only a tiny sleevless shirt, no socks and only a thin blanket, the same i use in summer. And so on .
I get a lot of colds in the winter time, though. Thats the bad side .

Yes, the cold can be quite invigorating. Tomorrow I'm finally going to have the chance to get outside and enjoy some cool weather.
Your winter is equivalent to autumn here. If I lived alone I would definitely have the windows open to let some fresh air in far more often than I get to do now. I do sleep with it open on many nights though. A while ago I was driving with a friend and she was not happy when I had the window open when it was like 1.5 C outside.

lol , i know, that happens to me all the time. When my mom come visits me in the winter she keeps closing the windowns i open , i have like an obsession to let air enter no matter how cold its outside. And people sure hates that. I dont think i ever opened the window at 1.5 though, cause thats such an unusual number for BA, even in the winter, that im not sure i ever experienced it here, but i have had HUGE fights with my boyfriend last winter when he HAD to sleep with the heater ON in 5 celsius nights and i turned heater off and opened the window. LOL. It was dramatic . Now i live alone, thankfully, so i know NOW how i will spend this winter. And how little im gonna spend in my electric bills .

I remember when living with my boyfriend last year, that our bill for june was something like $40. In july, i went on vacation for 3 weeks with my family. Then i returned, and a week after, the july bill arrived. It was $120!! LOL, thats how much he used the heater or how little i used it. Living alone i will probably spend $20, lol.

Wow, and I thought that the 10C/50F it has reached inside my house was bad. That was with the windows closed of course, no way would I even think of opening windows with temperatures below 20C/68F. Today the temperature stayed around 18C/64F in the house and I found that too cold.
I don't know how you guys can sleep with those temperatures, either. Even with plenty of thick blankets, my head gets too cold if it is below 13C/55F and I can't sleep.

Very warm and has been overcast all day here, 29C atm. Looking forward to the rain periods forecast for tomorrow.
As for sleeping in the cold I find it much more comfortable than sleeping in the heat, I'll close my bedroom window once it drops below 12C I rarely find the need to use my heater even below 5C, just wear some socks and a jumper...nice and cosy!
