Summary:
No sign of summers end; stormy hot week ahead.
A mixed and complicated week of weather ahead. We have a very hot stagnant airmass building in the first few days of this week. Some proper heat will occur, along with high humidity and heat index to 140 degrees. Then we will see a weak front and upper level cold pool some slightly cooler conditions briefly. A lot of thundery activity to be expected in the period 6-10th, with frequent lightning strikes a serious threat; very heavy sudden downpours could occur almost anywhere. Pay attention to ur weather warnings.
Early September is always scorching hot as the ridge of high pressure that dominates summer weather does not retreat until the second half of the month. Thus far in 2012 we have had a much hotter than average summer and one of the driest on record. There has not been any substantial rainfall since late April. Long range models, as usual for this time of year, show the ridge breaking up as we go into the third week in September which should allow for some much needed rainfall and cooler temperatures.
