Bit of-topic, but the best time of the year in Sydney is right now now in Autumn.. It's not hot or cold, slightly windy, clear skies and fairly dry.. In other words, higher pressure dominance..

Hard one.

San Francisco is dry and rather sunny, which I like.

Melbourne has some warmth and isn't always cool like SF, which I like.

Though Melbourne has dully cool, wet winters and bipolar summers. San Francisco is just cool all year round albeit nicely dry.

I'll got with SF for more sun and stable temperatures.

Melbourne, even if I prefer San Francisco's temperatures. But San Francisco has too many droughts, which I don't like.

Since they both have winters that are too mild anyway, it's a clear choice for me. SF for cooler summers and fewer extreme heat waves.

Melbourne. San Francisco is too sunny and too dry from April to October.

SF wins for me. Melbourne has two Allergy seasons spring and autumn. Also Melbourne has 4 months with an average of only 5 hours of day light. Also the daily high may on reach its maximum in Melbourne for 1 hour if your lucky… 17* Celsius in SF feels like 25* in Melbourne.. Melbourne's Spring is so bi polar and extreme, wind chill is too intense, Summer finally comes and it's too hot to function. And just when you climitize to the warmth its winter again.. In summer you can have a 40* day that is grey, you can have nights that are warmer than days. You can have more than four seasons in a few hours, You can never really plan to do out door activity's. For me Melbourne feels like 6 months of dark depressing cold weather with no beautiful scenery.
Plus your are so far away from anywhere..

I don't know where to start... outrageous hyperbole...

But yeah Melbourne for me, just for the more clearly defined seasons.

Melbourne by far, summer peaking in October is a big no, and summers akin to Stockholms is also a big no.
