While its been amazing warmer than normal for months on end in Central and East U.S, the Western Trough continues and snow continues to fall.

Seems like the West has had the same story all winter. Alaska breaking snow total records as well.

Here's some totals just in the past week March 12-19, 2012. I wish I had time to put more together. Maybe someone has a snowtotal map for us?

Sugar Bowl, CA. 55” at 6900’ base. 79” for the peak at 8400’. Lake Tahoe/Truckee - Sugar Bowl Ski Resort - Daily Snow Report - Norden, CA

Quaking Aspen, CA. 43”. Base 7100’. Summit 9300’

Arizona SnowBowl: 36”. Base 9200’. Summit 11,500’. Arizona Snowbowl | Snow & Ski Report | Flagstaff, AZ

It's certainly been snowy, but considering that conditions are now somewhat warmer than is typical for wintertime, and given that temperatures in most parts of the West (ski resorts included) will rise well above freezing after the storm is over, I'd consider it much closer to spring weather (transition season) than winter weather.

Regardless if you fall into the trap of "snow equals winter", it's wonderful that someone in the continent is getting a good dumping . I'm rooting for eastern parts of North America to get the good stuff, and for a cold, snowy, and stormy April .

Might be hard to imagine for those who have Summer tempratures in their backyard but there are many places in the U.S who are shoveling, cold, snowed in and dealing with road closures..

Here's Flagstaff Arizona yesterday.

It lightly snowed here this morning for about three hours but the temps were only 33F-34F so no accumulation.

I can't wait till the first 70F day.

Sounds refreshingly cool and dreary out west. That is proper March weather.
