I forgot about that one. I thought it was similar to Lisbon, which has a Mediterranean climate despite facing the Atlantic coast

You wouldn't consider Seattle or Portland oceanic?

Oh, but you were quite happy to hijack this thread with suggestions of subpolar climates like Reykjavik and Unalaska.

What about something like Mexico City?

Also, interesting that Cwb gets to count as oceanic under Koppen, but Csb doesn't.

I wonder what's the justification for it not being oceanic if the rainy season happens in the winter and the summer is the dry season but not vice versa.

I am under the impression that per Koeppen Cwb is considered a dry-winter temperate climate or subtropical highland climate, not oceanic. That is the definition I use, that if a climate has a true dry season, winter or summer, then it is not oceanic.

About something like Mexico City, that city has a true dry season so it is not oceanic.

My definition of a temperate oceanic climate:

a) Coldest month mean > 0 C / 32 F

b) Warmest month mean < 22 C / 72 F

c) At least four months with mean > 10 C / 50 F

d) Rainfall sufficient to preclude classification as an arid or semi-arid climate

Any objections? The term "oceanic" may be a misnomer in some cases (particularly in the case of tropical highlands that meet the above criteria) but the vast majority of cases would be dominated by maritime influence.

Temperature-wise it's perfect. Exclude the ones that have a true dry season (in winter or summer) and you've got it .

Why are you so hung up on dry seasons? I just don't see that it's relevant.

I agree with PM. Temperate classification should be given to a place with no dry season. To say a wet/dry place sits in a temperate zone is okay, but it should be classified as something else.
