He hasn't voted here:

Let's try an experiment...

ColdCanadian is the most extreme of those who voted.

Really? I would have thought ColdCanadian was but then, it seems like he has moderated himself after actually living in Perth. Deneb is definitely #2, followed by dhdh

Yeah, unlike those two, I love a cool season in the 20-27°C range (68-77°F) - followed by a long, hot, sultry summer
I don't know about Flight Simmer's ideal winter temps

Flight Simmer seems to like the hotter parts of the Outback as well as the northern coast of Australia (Darwin, Broome, and the like).

As for myself I'm the opposite of Sean8877 when it comes to weather (not that I have a problem with you, Sean (different strokes for different folks)). I'd be happy if it never got above 70F. My preference is for cold winters, averaging around 5-10F for highs and around -10F for lows, with record highs around 40F and record lows below -40F, mild summers, averaging 60's F for highs and 40's F for lows; this weather should last for 3 months (though I don't mind one sub-60F month). All-time record high shouldn't be any higher than about 90F. Also, plentiful snowfall, well in excess of 100 inches per season, storminess and windy conditions being dominant, and lastly low sunshine, below 2400 hours with 1700 being ideal.

In a few words, very cold and very snowy winters with plenty of blizzards, mild summers with nights always sub-50F, remaining cloudy, stormy, and windy year-round.

The latest version of the climate preference charts was posted here.

By my reckoning, the most extreme heat lovers are:

1. Cold Canadian
2. Dhdh
3. Kobber, Weatherfan2
4. Deneb78

Beyond that we get into another distinct cluster (from the heat-loving tropical-inclined people). These people are still heat lovers but are a mode moderate breed.

For what it's worth the most extreme cold lovers on the chart are:

1. Patricius Maximus, Kaul, and Cambium (we're all tied up at -10/-10 on the chart). Beyond that we get into another cluster altogether of the more moderate cold lovers (ilmc90, Nivalis, Dunno, etc.).

Does the heat/cold ratio of the forum need to be evened out, as one in another thread suggested? I'd say no. The chart looks rather balanced

I am a mild/warm weather appreciator. I will tolerate a hot summer fine, more than I would a cold winter. I like a bit of sun, say 2000-3000 hours per year but not excessive sun. Plenty of thunderstorms are a bonus. I don't like outdoor temps below about 14 degrees any time during daytime, so that would be a "min max" temp for a draem climate winter. Summers with an average temp around 23-26 degrees. A climate where mildness or warmth lingers into the evening and night a good portion of the year.

But your dream climate is quite a bit hotter and you chose 31°C as your summer temp on the chart.

I have several "dream climates" with differing degrees of summer warmth. I'm not entirely decided which one I would really prefer living in.

I don't know what chart you are referring to, are you sure the 31 degrees was the average temperature and not the average max temperature? 31 would be a good average high in summer for me.

I'm settling on a new "dream climate" which I will be posting shortly and represents my ideal climate, the average summer temperature is about 27 degrees which is acceptable.

You chose +8, 30°C-31°C. The chart is supposed to be average temperature, not average max temperature, maybe you misread it.

I've gone back to the original post of the thread.

Summer scale :

+10 : if you want your warmest month to be ABOVE 32°C - on 24 hour averages
+9 : if you want your warmest month to be BELOW 32°C
+8 : warmest month BELOW 31°C
+7 : Below 30°C
+6 : Below 29°C
+5 : Below 28°C
+4 : Below 27°C
+3 : Below 26°C
+2 : Below 25°C
+1 : Below 24°C
0 : Below 23°C
-1 : Below 22°C
-2 : Below 21°C
-3 : Below 20°C
-4 : Below 19°C
-5 : Below 18°C
-6 : Below 17°C
-7 : Below 16°C
-8 : Below 15°C
-9 : Below 14°C
-10 : Below 13°C

I chose "+8" for summer which correpsonds with "warmest month BELOW 31°C". That is as hot as I would want any summer month to be on average. My ideal range though now is 23-27°C. I overestimated what temperature I'd like in summer and now I would choose +6/+7 instead. My preferences do change over time, like most people they don't stay the same all the time.

I consider myself a mild weather lover, though a lot of my friends and family would say I prefer cold weather. What I consider mild, they consider cold. My ideal climate would have average winter daytime highs in the 30s and 40s, overnight lows in the 20s and 30s, with a cold snap or two (teens and 20s), and a couple of good snows that don't stick around for more than a few days. Ideally, summer highs would never top 70, and overnight lows would always be in the 50s. I'm much more adaptable on the cold end of the spectrum. For example, a winter that's 10-15 degrees colder than my ideal wouldn't bother me, but a summer that's 10-15 degrees warmer than my ideal would bother me a lot. I like my current climate a lot, and in fact it's pretty close to my ideal, if a little too warm in the summer. Average highs in the winter bottom out in the mid 40s with lows in the mid to high 30s, and top out at low to mid 70s in the summer, with lows in the 50s. To me, this is a very mild climate, yet a lot of people I know back in TN think this is a cold climate (never mind the fact that winters there have lower averages, especially at night). Of course, all of the ones who say that have never been here...
