Snowing is finally swinging in here from the west off the lake. I checked the extended local forecast as our region can vary widely with Lake Michigan so close and through Monday with the prolonged LES they are putting us around up to 25" by Monday evening when it finally settles down. That will more than make up for what we lost the past couple days with the warm temps and rain. Maybe I need to slow down my snow dance just a little so it doesn't come all at once.
25 inches in 6 days? Great. I hope we get to see some pictures.

2) The rest of the time weather afternoon temps in the mid 40s to break up the monotony. Even going to 50 like today. Usually sunny.
Mornings rarely below 15°F in (1), often warmer.
It sounds basically like what you have now, but with a pattern of cold=wet/warm=sunny, instead of the cold=dry/warm=wet that is typical for your region. Also you'd be in one of the milder hardiness zones.
Flooding here on App State's campus has already cancelled evening classes, damaged probably hundreds of cars in low-lying parking lots, and forced some students to take shelter in the student union due to flooded roads preventing access to their apartments. In addition, I've just found out that some apartment complexes as well as a trailer park are being evacuated by emergency officals.
NOAA has put Watauga County, NC under a rarely-used "Flash Flood Emergency." (http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigw...+Flood+Warning). I'm not sure what the practical difference is other than it sends a stronger message.
With the snow transition happening tonight and lots of water to freeze over, I don't think I need to bother setting my alarm clock for class tomorrow.

Here's what Durham Park on campus looks like:

That second pictures almost looks like you can see the storm cloud tops along the front.
Crazy temperature swings. Last Wednesday the high only reach 17 F/-8 C. Today it was 62 F/17 C. We had a 59 F/33 C temperature swing in the past week. Just a few days ago it was down to 6 F/-14 C.
Even crazier in Saranac Lake, NY. Last Wednesday had a high of -4 F/-20 C and a low of -29 F/-34 C. Thursday's low was -32 F/-36 C. Today's high was 55 F/12 C. 97 F/48 C swing in less than a week.

Makes you wonder if the upcoming Spring is going to be wild and wicked this year with winter being so all over the place. Seems like the carnage is starting early this year.
I was thinking the same thing! Snow is done (6"), wind is blowing, cold temps tomorrow/Friday! Hard to believe it was in the high 40s Monday!
