Here in Tennessee, our averages are currently 11.7°C/0.7°C at Crossville (nearest reliable weather station to Cookeville, which is where I'm currently located due to college). We've hit 18°C on January 11 and 12 in 2013, but haven't since then; we typically get an 18°C day by February or early March. Average highs are about 18°C by April 10.
My hometown, where I am on weekends, breaks, and summer, is quite a bit warmer owing to lower elevation. The current average is 13.9°C/2.2°C. It hits 18°C several times during the course of most winters; in colder winters, it may not reach 18°C until late February. The average high hits 18°C on March 28.
It seems to be mid-March for 18°C here. Average maybe March 17. But usually only for a day or two and then goes back to much colder weather. April the chances will be much higher, by April 27 the average daily maximum is 18°C. Currently my daily maximum/minimum is 6.1°C/-5.8°C. Mean just above freezing. Hmm. Once it goes more than 1°C above freezing, it's rather close to the average end of snow cover. Still some sticking around. May get more soon. Or not.
Well the difference in temp seems to increase from a few degrees to about 10c in london in the summer quite quickly here.
Early indications that my area - an hour Sw of Roanoke - might get a foot of snow or more and have wide spread power outages led me to do a thorough prep (bottle of red wine, plenty of dark chocolate and half a dozen good books from the library) for having to hunker down for a couple of days.
Now it's looking as though we may get little or no snow out of this event as the darn thing has moved north & east of me and my excuse for goofing off for a couple of days is gone.
Living in Virgina you'd have nothing to get excited about anyway. It will be gone in a day.
