This cold snap is more potent than the west coast and west coast heatwaves earlier this summer

Western Europe won't miss out on the excitement.

Meanwhile, all eyes are turning to Western Europe where a potentially historic heat wave is expected to develop this weekend and continue into next week! There is a chance that some all-time national heat records may fall in some countries like Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Hungary when all is said and done.

indeed it wont.

Synop report summary

38.1C in southern germany? cant be that commonplace...

Let's keep those ULLs coming, preferably intense ones that persist through next autumn and winter. If a ULL as cold and powerful as this one set up over Minnesota in winter, 30F below normal would work out to a high of -20F in northern Minnesota and -10F or so in the south.
Nice! Thanks.

Awesome to see but feel sorry for those who like warm and summer.

Here's NWS Deluth latest discussion: Frost has been mentioned

252 PM CDT SAT JUL 27 2013

.SHORT TERM...THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY EVENING.

THE VERY COLD UPPER LOW OVER FAR NORTHEAST MINNESOTA WAS MOVING
SOUTHWEST THIS AFTERNOON...AND IS FORECAST TO DROP SOUTH THEN EAST
TONIGHT. UNUSUALLY COLD TEMPERATURES COVERED MUCH OF THE NORTHLAND
WITH HIGHS SO FAR MAINLY IN THE FIFTIES...WITH SOME SIXTIES OUT WEST
WITH KBFW/KCKC STILL IN THE FORTIES. BOTH THE KINL/KMPX SOUNDINGS
AND A 10Z THUNDER BAY AMDAR SOUNDING HAD 850MB TEMPERATURES OF 2C
THIS MORNING
. THE RECORD LOW MAXIMUM FOR TODAY IN KDLH IS 56F...AND
WE WILL STRUGGLE TO REACH THAT VALUE TODAY. NUMEROUS SHOWERS
CONTINUED TO MOVE SOUTH OVER MUCH OF OUR CWA THIS AFTERNOON...BUT WE
DO EXPECT A DIMINISHING TREND LATER TONIGHT AS THE LOW DROPS SOUTH.
WE DID INCREASE POPS OVER OUR EASTERN AREAS THIS EVENING. PORTIONS
OF ASHLAND AND IRON COUNTIES WILL BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF LAKE
PROCESSES WITH A COLDER NORTH-NORTHEAST FLOW OVER THE LAKE WITH
850MB TEMPS FORECAST TO BE AROUND 1C.

LONG TERM...SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY.

TEMPERATURES WILL START OUT RATHER CHILLY SUN NIGHT/MON MORNING WITH
CLEAR SKIES...CALM WINDS AND A COOL AIR MASS IN PLACE PRODUCING LOWS
IN THE UPPER 30S AND LOWER TO MID 40S ACROSS THE NORTHLAND. THE
COLDEST LOCATIONS WILL BE IN INTERIOR AREAS OF THE ARROWHEAD. PATCHY
FROST IS POSSIBLE
IN THESE SHELTERED LOCATIONS DURING THIS TIME...

ALTHOUGH WILL BE MITIGATED BY ONGOING WAA. TEMPERATURES WILL WARM
QUICKLY INTO THE MID TO UPPER 70S MON AFTERNOON...AND THEN REMAIN
STEADY THROUGH THE REST OF THE WEEK WITH HIGHS IN THE 70S AND LOWS
IN THE 50S.

That is not really that cold for here we get -3c in summer. I think it is pretty impressive for that far south.

Huron, South Dakota

The low of 43 in Huron, South Dakota broke the daily record of 48 in 1904. This is the coolest July temperature since 42 on 7/16/76

Edit: I looked it up and the coldest July temp was:
37°F 7/30/1971
40°F 7/5/1972, 7/2/1945
41°F 7/4/1972, 7/14/1967, 7/4/1967, 7/3/1967, 7/15/1912, 7/24/1891
42°F 7/16/1976
