Interesting that you don't!

11.6C was the high today, and breezy with full overcast skies that gave the impression as if it was just about to rain all day long, though it never actually did. We had a couple of really sunny days over 20C (though only just - the high so far this month is 21.1C, or exactly 70F) a week or two ago, but it's only reading this now that I realise that yes, we actually are only two weeks away from the start of summer.

We don't usually see the Sun for about 5 months, so Sun to us means summer!

Indeed, even if summer isn't very sunny here, it's much sunnier than winter and therefore is associated with sunny weather.

Sunniest 6 months (April-September) in Turku: 1436 hours.
Cloudiest 6 months (October-March): 403 hours.

Sunniest month on average (July): 287 hours
Cloudiest month on average (December): 27 hours.
On average 10.6 times more sunshine in July.

So, sun -> summer.

Well the spring / summer would likely have much more sunshine hours because the daylight is longer. Averaging by % for the last 4 years, April-Sep averages 56% sunshine, Oct-Mar averages 50% sunshine. My sunshine hours Apr-Sep has 1.5 times more sun than Oct-Mar.

[Used data from the Blue Hill Observatory, which is slightly different than here]
