The last map looks pretty typical, with a few lows, a few highs, and some rainfall records. With the big heat that's coming in for the next week in the Southeast it's possible some more red dots may appear. Naturally I want to see purple dots everywhere .

May 1, 2012.
Pretty neat to scroll through the maps and see the movement of the records. For instance the record highs has shifted from the West to central now entering the southeast.

How hot is it supposed to be in the southeast? My forecast only has about average highs, maybe a couple degrees above at most; upper 60s.

GFS has 90s all the way into Tenessee and Missouri but mostly 80s which like you said should be normal.
With these record maps they use all stations and some that only have kept records for past 20-50 years so its probably why we're seeing records a lot.
