Greenery isn't that important. Even in London and SE England, grass goes yellow/brown in the summer. Heathland/grassland is my favourite type of vegetation.
There was an explosion of green during those warm days we had mid-month. The rain storm last weekend and showery weather this week has also helped. Looks very nice, though I don't think a few more freezes would cause very much damage.
Perhaps my forecast is colder than yours. I have a 26°F low predicted for tonight, and then the next two nights are forecast to be below freezing as well. If brief, maybe a low just around freezing wouldn't cause much damage, but 26°F will.
We have an opposite scenario where all the grass goes brown in summer and green in winter, everything looks so much more alive in winter/spring, lakes fill up and many bird species return...it's nice.
Yea, my poll was biased more towards to humid temperate climates. For a warm Mediterranean climates perhaps it would read something like this: do you prefer late winter and spring over fall even if fall has superior weather in your mind?
Guides to California often say the best time to visit the coast is autumn when warmth and dryness is more consistent; but I would prefer spring.
Cold semi-arid climate get bare in their way in the cold season.
Absolutely important to me as I like my lawns and gardens looking green and healthy. I absolutely detest arid and brown/red landscapes, they do nothing to simulate the mood at all.
I do not particularly like arid landscapes, but I like warm climates, so my preference is a subtropical climate with mild winters (hi/low maybe 18/9°C) and hot summers (hi/low 33/21°C) and plenty of summer rain from thunderstorms, and plenty of vegetation.

28 F here forecasted for tonight.
But this time of year we often get a handful of freezes. We're not really in the clear until mid-May or so.
Havent read all the posts here but I chose #1. But instead of "sometimes" look forward to it. I always look forward to it. I love the new buds that come out, I love gardening in summer, I love the green and fall colored landscapes but I prefer all year round winter. If I had to choose, I'd choose my temps over veggies. So thats why I chose #1.
It's good I like to garden because I'd have no reason to live through summers around here. I work, excercise, play and hang out outside 75% of the day so I need to be comfortable.
Here's my theory... If I'm going to live in this climate here, at least give me 3 months of temps I want, its like a recharge of batteries. Thats the best way I can explain it. I can tolerate summer (somewhat) if we have a severe winter.
Greenery is important to me but not as important as temperatures. For example, if the weather is crappy than all the greenery in the world isn't going to make up for that. However it can still be a nice day even if there are no leaves. But all else being equal I'd rather have greenery than no greenery.

Sums up what I think. I always look forward to spring bloom.
