Locally people go out more when it's cloudy and wet. If the sun is out, people carry umbrellas to shade themselves from the sun. A lot of people dislike sunny and clear skies. Also the amount of physical exercises increases rapidly under the former conditions but not so much for the latter.

I posed this question on another thread recently, and one member came up with this gem of a reason: "for safety reasons....I'm going on vacation... I'm not going to point you to where I live". That is just ridiculous, how is anyone from an anonymous forum going to track you down to your pinpoint house number and street in a sea of hundreds to millions of addresses (depending on the size of your town), find out your real name and know your details etc armed with nothing but the name of a town. Yet, I'm sure the same people that come up with this think nothing of giving their credit card number to websites to purchase their bloody snuggies or whatever.
Why is that such a big issue? If PM does not want to disclose the location of where he/she lives then fair enough.

And thinking outside the box, if you live in a cold, snowy climate, do most people go out and take advantage of a fresh snowfall or do they stay indoors because it is too cold?
Also, what times of year do people tend to go out more? Are there more indoor periods and outdoor periods depending on the time of year?
We are in Conn. so the weather here changes at the drop of a hat, can be unpredictible for sure. We do take advantage of the good weather when it is here. Right now we are in the throes of a lot of rain which is pulling us out of what was a dangerous drought. We had several small forest fires where we live with one being fairly close to where our home is; wasn't a good thing.

Our weather is normally cold, snowy in the winter and the roads can get super slick. There are several ski areas around us so I am sure folks do look forward to the snow when it comes. We have a big pasture across the street that has a pretty good sized hill and the kids all sled on it when the snow comes, so much fun to watch them. Last year, during one of our very few snowstorms, the work horses from the farm got loose and were in the pasture playing in the snow, it was a true kodak moment!

I would say that the indoor and outdoor moments depend on what a a person actually enjoys. We like being outdoors most of the time weather permitting and like I said..this is Connecticut..weather changes on a dime at any given moment!

Can't be screwed sifting through 1200+ posts, so it'll be a lot easier if you repeat yourself.

Another perfect example of how biased this thread is. koyaanisqatsi hates sunshine, so most people in Sydney also do.

I like sunny days in the 70s and even 80s, so most people in Western Massachusetts do. I see lots of people out on those days.

I've never heard of someone going outside to enjoy the cold weather. My location (NYC/Long Island) is more warm-based with people itching to go to beach, pool, park, etc. There isn't really anything you can do during the 2-3 months of winter other than be cold.
Couldn't agree more! The warm lovers far outnumber the cold lovers round here. Just take a look at the development along the NJ coast vs the development of the Poconos.

Most people don't go outside during winter because 'ohhh it's too cold wah wah wah I'm so pathetic and weak'.. but then again NYC has pathetically cold winters that cannot support a sustained snowpack so it's no surprise people dislike winter there when all you ever get is slushy rubbish. Ottawa looks like a great place in winter with people skating on the frozen canal.
