Some people actually bet on the weather in this country and although it's not as popular as betting on a White Christmas you can place bets on it hitting 100F somewhere in the country at some point in the summer. The best odds I could see were 8/1 though - they've probably gone down a lot in the past couple of days - so I won't bother. Anything 12/1 and up would be tempting though .

Can't imagine how humid 100F would be here in Berkshire. It was so humid today, it reminded me of a winter day in Puerto Rico. is it usually that muggy in this country? I'm talking 65%+ RH

So if it happens in June this year it will be the first time since 1966.
Another quick stat: NYC hit 100 degrees 4 of the 10 years in the 90s decade.(1990-1999)
Only once in the 2000s.(2000-2009)
We already have 2 in this decade.(2010,2011)

Today felt warmer to me than a normal 26C day does, though the heatwaves we get often get more humid as they go on. Plus it's the first warm weather of the season and I'd had no time to get used to it. That 100F day wasn't actually particularly humid - only 20% or so when the temperatures were at their highest:

We hit 26C with humidity above 60% all the time and dew points approaching 20C - humidity usually falls below 50% during such temperatures here.

No, NYC doesn't get to 100 every year. Last year I got to 105, and the year before that we got to 103. It'd be nice to do it a 3rd time in a row.

Yes, it reached 38.6C/101.5F on the 9th of January. However last year the highest it got was only 36.6C/97.9F, which is highly unusual.

A bet with yourself? How does that work? I'm actually curious.

We don't hit 100 F every year, but we usually come close. Last year reached 99 F. The heat index was 112 F last July, one of the highest I've ever seen here.
