This climate would be in A territory if maximums and minimums were knocked down 5 F and sunshine was much lower.

B. Yes, I like it! Though it doesn't get an A because winters are still not cold enough to have guaranteed snow every year, I guess. Anyway, this climate is much better than BA. Summers are great BTW!

Good find, Sophie!

Crappy. Too cold even at the height of summer.

D+ for sunshine

This suggestion was for the likes of Sophie and Sanfel, not the "warmies/hotties". For those who want a colder temperate zone place from this part of the world, with guaranteed snowfalls in winter, Tekapo (previously cited somewhere in the weather forum) is also sunny, averaging about 2400 hours in latter years, and about 600mm (24") rainfall fairly evenly distributed. Too cold for Sophie though.

A- from me. Plenty of beautiful mild, useable sunny days and unheard-of amounts of sunshine in the winter as far as I'm concerned, plus the rain is of the more spectacular kind than the drizzle we get. It comes down a grade for not having enough inclement/cold weather in the winter (how much fog/gales does it get? I'm not sure I could appreciate the spring the same there after such a benign winter), but up half a grade because those conditions are available so close in the mountains.

Yes, you can get fog and/or snow in places not far distant, and very high rainfalls in the national park towards the west coast (Heaphy).

B+

Very nice climate, even precip distribution, decent sunshine,
mild winters, no need for A/C in summer and it's on the south island too

Sunshine and rainfall amount/distribution is very nice. Summer temperatures are a bit too cool for my liking, I'd happily trade a cooler winter for a warmer summer.

Overall its pleasant but lacks a bit of variety, C+

Cool, the neighbor's climate -Nelson is the big city in this parts. I give it a B, pretty good, but 2-3C warmer in all months would be perfect for for me.

The figures posted aren't ones I've seen before. These are the long term averages- Nelson Aero., New Zealand: Climate, Global Warming, and Daylight Charts and Data

Not a climate for snow lovers, with no snow in the city for 35 years. Lots of snow close by though.

There are wetter Motueka, New Zealand: Climate, Global Warming, and Daylight Charts and Data and drier Blenheim, New Zealand: Climate, Global Warming, and Daylight Charts and Data versions of this climate, within a couple of hours drive in either direction.

Oops, I voted C instead of B
