Weather forecast model outputs looking scarily like July 2007 here, every time I check the updates there's another 50mm of rain in a day washout appearing.

Speaking of washouts, there have been rain totals of 5-15 inches appearing in many spots near the Gulf Coast. Just 3 days ago scattered thunderstorms were forecast for the south and for more northerly locations heat and sun was forecast, but then yesterday a cool front with thunderstorms popped out of the blue on the forecasts, and that unexpected upper-level low has "re-energized" an old frontal boundary* along the Gulf Coast producing big flooding rains. The last time I saw this much stuff pop out of the blue in that general region was in February 2011. It seems that June 2012 is an exciting time for weather across the globe .

*The old front is the stalled front which was attached to the same system that brought the early June chill and rain to New England (yes, believe it or not that system is still bringing in the rain)

I don't mind heavy rain if it comes in thunderstorms, the frontal persistent rain we get is far worse, goes on for hours and is most depressing.

Looks like today will be the hottest day of the month thus far. High of 85 F forecasted. It was quite warm and humid when I was out and about this morning. 78 F with a dewpoint of 66 F at noon. Month is still running below average, but I expect the upcoming week will bring us around average. I'm happy to see no intense heat in the forecast.

Here's the latest US Drought Monitor: US Drought Monitor

It looks like the drought is pretty much gone in the northeast. I imagine a huge dent in the drought has been made in the southeast with the recent heavy rains.

I think you are going to be relatively happy with this upcoming summer. I don't think it's going to get too intense. A handful of hot days here and there, but nothing like the last two years. I think you'll catch a break in the heat this year. I see temps being average or maybe even a notch below normal.

Yeah so far it hasn't been too bad. I also predicted an average summer. Hopefully we're right!

I prefer to be in Maine right now but I'll take normalcy. Amazing how the heat doesnt want to go north of NJ...
