Snow in BA, again? That pic is cool! To me it's quite extraordinary the BA gets snow like that when it's at Sydney's latitude and the averages are nowhere near cold enough to give the impression of snowfall.

Last time Melbourne saw snow of any kind was I think in the 1980's. Last time it settled to any extent was about half a century ago.

I am skeptical of ever seeing snow in Melbourne, It just seems impossible to get cold enough. Even getting a high temp of below 10C is near impossible.

Christchurch's 1C HIGH is quite an extraordinary feat. That snowfall today.... amazing stuff. As I said, I only saw a light flurry during my 3 weeks in Hungary in January!!!

Well, not snow in BA. Tres Arroyos is a town located some 500 or 600 km (350 or 400 miles) south of BA. The confusion always arises because the province of Buenos Aires stretches from a bit north of the city of BA way south beyond Bahia Blanca. And in fact the city of BA isn't technically included in Buenos Aires Province!

I wish we had some snow! The city of BA proper doesn't really get snow more than once in 90 years or so.

Well Hanmer is a fair bit inland and at moderate elevation, so it's entirely possible that it got a foot of snow. I'd say we got about 3-4'' here.

I believe there have been a few power outage issues in some parts, mainly rural areas.
What factors do you need to come together to get a record low high there? Seems odd for a maritime place like Christchurch to get it so early in the season, and as far as I'm aware so soon into a cold spell. Here you'd need to get a few days of radiation cooling over a decent snowcover and the airmass having crossed as little sea as possible (E/SE'ly) after the sea had had time to cool down a bit (i.e. late December - mid February). Freezing fog would also help.

It didnt snow in BA, and i think it wont. Its weird cause since it snowed in 2007 (first time in 89 years) every freacking winter its a snow forecast in the news, lol.....and of course it never snows!

Anyways, today is a cold day: 6.7 c at 1:30 pm! Maybe a bit too cool for my liking since "feels like" its 4c, but if it were sunnier (it was super sunny but now a lot of dark clouds have come to the sky) it would be great!

Anyways, im liking winter.

I wish it snows in Mar del Plata! Thats way more probable and i hope my relatives and friends i have there could enjoy it!

wow, really? never in your lifetime you had a high of 6 or 7 celsius in melbourne?? Thats weird, specially considering BA is warmer than Meloburne. Melbourne is more like Mar del Plata and MDP is waaay colder than BA in winter and has been seeing highs of 6 celsius since May started! (when BA only saw 20c highs, lol).

It seems like melbourne climate is very stable, right? it sticks to their averages- Here, in BA, we can have days with temps 0/7 and days with temps 15/25 in the middle of the winter.

Apparently some very light freezing rain and sleet fell on some areas of the city of Buenos Aires, though they were very short and scattered. That's what I just read. I didn't see any here.

Well, there is more landmass to the south of Buenos Aires vs. Melbourne, which has nothing but ocean to the south. So I'd expect Argentina to be more "continental" than Australia.

No snow here. Did get 138 mm of rain though. Yesterday was warm (16C) and windy (140 kmh/80 mph) until about 1 pm. Then dropped to 5C with rain by about 3.00 pm, then 2C with rain and wind by about 8.00pm.

The snow level is not that low on the hills this morning - about 800M/2500 ft, the temp must have been about the same at that altitude, as here.

Well, technically, the high was 6.9 C at the very start of the "day" (12 AM), but from 5 AM onwards I don't think it got above 1 C.

Still, the record low high is 1.2 C and we had an afternoon high not much above that last year (during one of two snowstorms that year).

-5 C here at 8:30 AM but clear blue skies -- looks awesome! Will post pics later.
