Very cool, wet and dull in the first three weeks. Then an exceptionally warm and sunny period of weather in the final weeks with some of the highest temperatures recorded in May for this location. This resulted in above average temperatures by the end of the month.

Highs of at least 90 degrees 20 days this month and freakin' humid to go along with it. We had some decent rain, though which gives it a rating of "2".

Another relatively dry and sunny May. Temperatures near average.

The low for the month of 1.3C / 34 F equalled the all-time record low for Perth City in May.

My first month in Brisbane, although arrived on the 4th and was away in the Northern Territory for 9 of them, plus in Wellington, NZ briefly yesterday.

In addition to a very sunny, almost perfect May in Brisbane, all trips away were also very sunny. So after 2 years of La Nina in Sydney, I have finally experienced a sunny month. And it was very welcomed!

I will rate this a 9.5 out of 10

Note: Apologies for the lack of imperial conversions. Pure laziness on my part, but also I have added these figures in manually. My automated process (SAS, VBA and Excel in case you're interested) leveraged off my Sydney historical data. I do not have Brisbane historical data yet.

A colder, cloudier and wetter than normal month May was characterised by long stretches of miserable cloud with no less than SEVEN overcast days (<1 hours sun), above average number of rain days and below average sunshine.

Score: 3/10. Doesn't get much worse here except than cooler average temps in June and July and the occasional month with less than 100 hours of sunshine. Like Last year's May.

You can see the daily data here: http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/20...9.201205.shtml
The numbers I put here are slightly different to what it shows on the BOM, because they messed up some data on the 25th and 26th.

In this May, maximum temperatures were similar to the average, while minimum temperatures were about 2C below average. Rainfall was below the average of about 35-40mm. I rate this month a 3/10 because I disliked the low rainfall, but because of some thunderstorm activity near the start of the month (rare in May) I didn't rate it any lower than that.

So far this year only 231.2mm of rain has fallen, which is below average. With a good chance of an el nino later this year it looks like this year could finish with significantly below normal rainfall.

I wanna see marlaver great graphic about May, to check how above average this month was.
I will check with the graphic to give May a rating, but im probably gonna end up rating May comparing "what i expected" and "what it ended up being", not comparing it to the other months.

Sunshine: 206 hours
Sunless days: 2
Days with abundant sunshine (10 hours+): 10

Summary (Celsius & mm):

The month was a bit warmer than average (+1C) thanks to the last few days (positive). Precipitation is above average (which is 59.3 mm / 2.3") thanks to a few rainy tstorms (positive as well).
So I rate it a 7. It was nice, though there could have been more organised thunderstorms, as May is the second stormiest month here.

It was a really one of the best months in year with very mild and warm weather, as well as the predominance of clear days.
Average temperature in May according to Wiki: 16.0C (61.0F). The actual average temperature of the month: 19.0 C (66.2F). Deviation from the norm: +3.0 C or +5.2 F.
Average precipitation in May according to Wiki: 35mm (1.38 in). The actual precipitation: 5mm (0.2 in). This amount is 14% of normal.
The lowest temperature 4.2C (39.6F) was in May 1st. Highest temperature 32.7C (90.9F) was in May 13th.
I rate it a 8, because it was too dry.
