Judging by my experience from the last heat wave, I'll go with cold being worse. It's different kinds of unpleasantness, everyone's going to be different.

Oh whoops, just looked at the choices. Both horrible. None, please?!

I'd take -50 F any day over 120 F, but like it has already been said, it's subjective and this topic is like beating a dead horse.

-50F for me any day. I love the cold. -50F is a bit cold even for me but it's miles ahead of personally lethal 120F heat in terms of my rating and comfort.

As for Phoenix vs. Fairbanks Fairbanks's climate is vastly superior.

-50F is pretty rare in Fairbanks in any given winters, while 120F may as well be a regular occurrence in Phoenix. how about Phoenix vs. Oymyakon? or Phoenix vs. Bettles, AK?

-50F seems like it would be interesting to experience. 120F seems like pure hell. So I'll take the extreme cold.

120F doesn't regularly occur in Phoenix. It never got above 118F in Phoenix until the 122F heat wave in June 1990. At that time there was one day that got to 120F and one that recorded 122F. Since then only one day in July 1995 has reached 120F.

I'd say -50F in Fairbanks occurs far more often than 120F in Phoenix. For Fairbanks I'd guess -60F would have equivalent rarity as a 120F in Phoenix.

Not sure if the OP is new here or just a troll trying to resurrect one of the most chronically uninteresting, beaten to death and recurring topics of this forum.

Personally I hate cold and would be happy to never see any temps below 20°C ever again. I dislike 35°C+ weather but wouldn't mind having to handle a few 40°C days once in a while if it meant escaping 5°C drizzly days.

/thread please
