Oh, it's SO HOT in Duluth! About 82 degrees F with 35% relative humidity right now! And it got up to about 88 yesterday!
Anyone want to chime in on the heatwave that is now affecting the Midwest and will soon go eastward? I'm surprised a thread wasn't already created for it. The high was 108 in St. Louis today, which is a bit extraordinary...
We here in the Tri-State area (NY/NJ/CT) had quite nice early summer temps (sunny and highs in the 80’s F). Yet, it looks like temps will really ramp up in the coming days. From New Orleans to NYC highs should crack 95 F with heat index values over 100 F:
I don't mind the heat and I'm headed to the beach this weekend so it should be kind of fun. Remember, light weight/light colored clothing and 2 gal water/ per/ person per day if working outside. Be safe out there folks.

USA, how I don't envy you! What are the dewpoints like in Memphis, St. Louis, Cincinnati etc.? Atlanta and Charlotte would be hellish that's for sure. The west coast, as always, is the place to be, even inland spots like Methford at 85F/29C are acceptable.
Sydney seldom gets 100F+ heat and 70F dewpoints; those figures were reached for a week in 2011 in the western suburbs, something I hope doesn't happen this summer.
You have what I call "reverse envy". This map should answer your questions about current dew points. It's currently morning in America, so these dew points will get lower across a wide swath in the afternoon as mixing occurs:

I believe the winds at 850mb level determine where the humidity will go..maybe even at the surface. For instance, here near the coast if winds are strong enough from the southeast during the day, we'll get that moisture in the air from the Atlantic.
Right now they are from the NW which is helping keep dewpoints in the 60s except where the 850mb layer is hot..

Watch those temps move east and creep up and so will surface temps. Oranges are above 20C(very warm for layer above)
It seems like the USA gets better and better summers every year. Even the NE makes Melbourne's summers look like the polar abyss of Tromso or some crap

This morning the low temperature in Pittsburgh was 80 degrees, which is a record high minimum temperature for the month of June, and tied for the third-warmest minimum temperature of all time (July 21, 1930). It's no guarantee that Pittsburgh will reach 100 degrees, though, because the high temperature on July 21, 1930 was 96 degrees. The 10AM update from Pittsburgh International Airport had the temperature at 87 degrees, though, so it is worth monitoring today, especially since August 6, 1918 started off at 81 degrees (second-warmest all-time minimum) and is currently in a three-way tie for the hottest temperature in Pittsburgh history (103 with July 10, 1881 and July 16, 1988).
