That's amazing, even by Yellowstone standards. Please send some of this to Colorado. Our reservoirs are starved, our lakes have disappeared and we are desperate for snow in the mountains. People that don't live here have no idea of the devastation from the heat and drought.

I don't. Dry here seems to be "grass is slightly less green". Water surplus has become the norm recently.
There is one poor guy that is building a 3 million dollar house on our lake. This was undoubtedly purchased and contracted some time ago, but the problem is that there is no lake anymore. Uneven distribution of precipitation is a fact of life, and I know that I live in an marginal semi-desert area, but the past two years have been brutal. Mother Nature does not care.

Our predicament is a combination of Mother Nature and human error, a deadly combo. This Spring, human error let hundreds of thousands of gallons of water down the N. Platte River. This summer we had no rain and the Big Thompson river became...not a river. The farmers in Greeley own the rights to the water in the lake, but almost always just take the water from the river. Well, the river was gone, so they drained the lake. The sad reality is that the crops died anyway. Lose/Lose, big time.
It is a huge, local tragedy that I don't expect anyone else to care about. A once beautiful lake is gone.

A cold air mass covers all of interior Alaska this weekend. With
strong high pressure over the North Slope and broad low pressure
over the Gulf of Alaska... many areas have enough wind to keep
strong inversions from forming. However... in the upper Yukon
valley and on the southern Yukon Flats... winds have remain nearly
calm. This has allowed temperatures to drop to unusually low
levels for this early in the winter.
In contrast... at The Fort Yukon Airport... where there have been
persistent northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph... the low temperature
Sunday has been just 8 below.
In the Fairbanks area almost all areas have had wind for the past day... so
temperatures are generally zero to 10 below.
Mt Rainier parking lot November 10 and today. The November 10th snow melted, I didnt have a comparison pic from afterwards. Should of grabbed one before the snow started the other day.
Incredible whats happening in the west. HUGE upper level low rotating around and spitting out these disturbances right into the west coast. With precip amounts up to 6" of liquid and temps below freezing above 5000 feet there is insane amount of snow being dumped in the mountains.

That's certainly the most extreme forecast I've ever seen for winter weather. Mountain tops usually get some extreme winter weather, but this is quite extreme even for mountain summits. Recently Redding, California actually recorded a 71 mph wind gust (at least 70-74, I can't remember exactly). While 71 mph winds aren't unusual on mountain tops, they're a lot less common at lower elevations, and it seems unusual for Redding to have winds that high. Could someone with better knowledge of that area clarify how unusual it is?
